10/24/09 Playing in the mirror after a football game.

 Hmmm...

Sun, 01/19/2009... enjoying my last week of being 29! Dang, I need to pic my afro daily like Badu told me to... *smile* It's whatever. It's alright.

Leave a note, please.

03/31/09 LMAO! Halle Berry doing the Halle Berry!

as of January 6, 2009 (I restarted this in Aug 2008... This is actually my THIRD afro in the past 3 years.  This time, there will be NO dyes, etc. "Juices and Berries" ONLY! I have SLE and my face was a mess this day (mild though) but I'm still beautiful. I am not into smoke and mirrors if you can't tell...

May 2003, one week after my very first perm shedding

July 2007, it's about 7:30 a.m. (right after working SIX 12 hour shifts; tired as all hell but still lovely)

March 2008, Monday morning immediately after my a.m. shower... tired after working my weekend doubles (two 16 hour shifts, getting paid for 40)

July 5, 2008, Sheryl Lee Ralph (www.sherylleeralph.com) and I (Can you tell we're both Jamaican?) posing at the Star Suite at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. I met so many celebrities. I was ill and with 40+ hours with no sleep (REALLY!),  I was exhausted after leaving the hospital the morning of July 3rd. I partied so hard that weekend!

BELOW is my sister in spirit, Jill Scott, performing her "AND I HEARD", which she has yet to record and release. She has been doing this song as an encore at the end of her shows. This version was visually clearer but you had to be at ESSENCEFEST 2008 to hear her most powerful, most spiritual rendition. Check it out!

Much love to my home state **LOUISIANA** for making me the beautiful, intelligent woman that I am... 318 FOREVER!

Stop letting people label you as "African-American" if or your parents or you are not directly from Africa. If you were born here, you are American despite the color of your skin. Your skin color does not give others the right to label you, especially if it is misinformation. I am not a HYPHENATED AMERICAN AND MOST OF YOU HERE ON BP ARE NOT EITHER!!!!
Celebrate your blackness! Be great and be great at it! My desire is to remain the image in which God made me. First, Jesus is black and IS the most powerful man who ever ambulated on this earth! With that being said, black people are the strongest, most powerful, most hated and feared people on this earth. God created only THREE (3) races originally... negroid, mongoloid, and causcasoid. I feel privileged that he made created me in the race of Jesus, in Egypt where there were NO white people at the time of his creation. Jesus is a black man, a descendant of Abraham, who came from a black civilization in Samaria. (BTW, Noah son Ham was black. If you know anything about Jesus's bloodline, do the math!) Anywho, America is the only country in the world that uses the word "Black" and associate it with something negative, dirty, and morbid. Yet, we use "white" to equate something beautiful, pure, and righteous. I disagree obviously.
As a nurse, there are only so many things that I can do to celebrate who I am so I wear my hair naturally and beautifully and wear little makeup because I want the world to see that I am beautiful just the way I am and that I do not have to alter who I am to be accepted or to assimate to become a part of an image and mindset that was never designed to include me and other people of color in the first place... America's "white melting pot" (what I meant is, although black people were here first, history says white people killed and even stole from Native American's graves and all kinds of other things do demean others and perserve their white is right heritage and mentality. Not stepping on any toes here, but the facts are the facts! Educate yourself!)
I adore and celebrate my blackness and am trying to teach other people of color celebrate who they are and to change their actions and stop giving in to the stereotypes and negative opinions that depict us. The worst thing you could ever do to "them" is to be proud, intelligent, and educate yourself!
I love when onlookers check out my afro. It takes a strong person to wear one and smile and be proud in the face of adversity. People, especially white people, need to know that there are well-spoken, intelligent, competent African Americans who are naturally beuatiful and are not militant, who just want to be themselves and be great at it, just as they hopefully strive to be. I am still naturally nappy and loving every moment of it! I am not here to entertain you or conform to your idealistic views of what a "real chick" is. I am who I am. I accepted long ago the things that I cannot change. In hindsight, I have no clue why I contemplated changing anything in the first place. I am the epitome of perfection because of the situations and stations in life in which God placed me, all of which are where HE wanted me to be. I am much stronger and well-rounded because of them. In order to get to the next level in life, one must go through something, fight hard, and prosper. I continue to do that on a daily basis.
With that being said, I have become a very high-spirit, forward-thinking, progressive person, I would like to surround myself with similar personalities. So if this conversation excludes you, I sincerely extend my condolences for missing the opportunity to get to know a great person. Au revoir et a tout a l'heure, j'espere. If this is you, leave a note and maybe we can have beautiful conversation about nothing in particular... the fact that you have been through something, learned from it, and have become intelligent and well educated as result speaks measures... fancy me.

I am on BP to chill and make new friends and do me the best way I possibly can. Life is far too short to waste time on frivolous things.
