Now get yourself a glass and do what you do
But First.... The Latest

I don't come here much anymore so I apologize for the late replies to notes left by my friends. I'm killing a little time on Myspace these days - Poetic Thought - so anyone can hit me there. All these sites are cool at first but get a little boring after a while I guess. Anyway, Happy Holidays to everyone!
Anyway, back to the program....

The artwork shown here is by Alonzo Adams. He`s an amazing talent. You can view and purchase his work at www.theadamsgallery.com
Now, In case you didn`t know, we vibe to all kinds of things at my crib. Sippin` on some top shelf cognac or vodka makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

Music blends so well with a smooth drink and I`m a man with a variety of taste.... whether it be some Chuck Brown& Eva Cassidy and some Chopin Vodka with a splash of fruit juice.... or maybe some Coltrane with a glass of Beaufond X.O. Cognac; neat.

I`ve developed an appreciation for jazz over the years but I`m from D.C. so that love began with Go-Go music. Give me some Chuck Brown, Rare Essence, E.U., Junk Yard, Back Yard, etc. any day of the week. Go-Go enables me to appreciate live instrumentation.... something, we just don`t get these days from your typical R&B music.
Other artists who go well with my liquor are Maxwell, Smokey, Luther (R.I.P.), Stevie, Frankie, EWF, Anita, Joe, Curtis, The Isleys, Z.Z. Hill (what ya`ll know about Z.Z.?), Will Downing, Donny Hathaway, Bill Withers, Parliament Funkadelic, and the list goes on.... Thank God for these classic artists because the current state of Black music is in shambles and that`s a damned shame.
But I can`t even imagine living life without my girl Sade. It simply gets no better!

I got almost as much love for Hip-Hop as well. You see, I`m from the days when it was all about the lyrics. Rakim Allah in my humble opinion is the Michael Jordan of Hip-Hop. He changed the game. I would love to just meet the man some day.

So who is this man who calls himself 100 Proof anyway? Well, I`m 37. I`m married with three boys, so that part of my life is taken care of. Like most parents, I love my kids more than life itself.

I`m 6`5" with a slim build. I love hoops, football, and boxing. Information Technology is my profession but writing is my passion.... whether it be short stories, screenplays, editorials, song lyrics, or poetry. Here is a simple piece I wrote years ago (before I got married).
Who Am I?
I`ve reached a point in my life
where I need an I.D.
No, not a driver`s license
or family tree
When I look into the mirror
I see physical me
When I look into my mind
Here`s everything I see
I see the boy next door
I see the loyal friend
I see the young man on the corner
pouring juice in his gin
I see the man who was so honored
to be amongst a million men
I see the man who can provoke
with just the stroke of a pen
I see the single father
who cherishes his son
I see the man who battles
with his mind not his gun
I see the man who hangs out
with criminals on the run
I see the man who prays
every night for each one
I see the man who has met
fast women in clubs
who said the right things
and spent a few dubs
and got intimate pleasures
oils and back rubs
while covered in suds
reclined in bath tubs
I see the man who broke hearts
without even trying
I see the man with a shoulder
made especially for crying
who gets women to trust him
without even lying
they open their hearts
without any prying
I see happy go lucky
I see deep concentration
I see the man who`s concerned
about his young Black Nation
I see goals and dreams
I see the man who`s impatient
I see plans and schemes
I see time wasted
I see thug, I see nerd
I see calm, quiet, and reserved
I see approach with caution
I see do not disturb
I hear curses mixed in with
nouns, adjectives, and verbs
I hear ghetto slang
I hear articulated words
I see versatility
I see recognition of flaws
I see outspoken pride
I see fights for the cause
I see survival of the fittest
and the breaking of laws
I see brains, heart, and courage
F*ck the Wizard of Oz
I see the relationship with God
I see the man who loves life
I see the man who dreams
of being blessed with a wife
who has her man`s back
when the heartbreak and the strife
weigh heavy on his mind
and cut like a knife
I see the man who`s been knocked down
and once again stand
I see the man who will offer
a strong helping hand
I see responsibilities
and the man who never ran
I see love and compassion
I see a good man
I have much, much, more but too much poetry can kill a site.... but do feel free to hit me up with a note or sign the guestbook or whatever. You can also IM me at "ghetto_cognac" on Yahoo.
