It can be therapuetic, requiring great concentration and the masking out of all other distractions or preoccupations. It is personal, since no two people draw exactly alike. For design, the most vital kind of drawing, and probably the most enjoyable is sketching (as opposed to drafting). Sketching is the most spontaneous, the most plastic, and the most interpretive kind of drawing. Through sketching, architects both record and analyze impressions and explore and express new ideas or visions. Drafting, whether by hand or computer, merely transforms sketched ideas into analogs of reality. Drawing architectural forms is a romance and often that romance is taken to the extremes. Architects may produce drawings whose abstract graphic qualities outweigh those of the design represented by the drawings. And we frequently see architect's drawings that are so seductive, so artfully composed and so evocative that we overlook the merits of the subject depicted by such drawings."..... paraphrased from "A Candid Guide to the Profession" by Roger K. Lewis 1985
