Trip To The Motherland

Italians are connected with their culture. Spaniards know who they are and speak their native tongue. The same is true for Indians, Chinese, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and Jews. Sadly, the fact is not true for African Americans. We have been robbed of our language. Robbed of our names, history and culture and stripped of our cultural identity. Even more unfortunate is the fact that many of our people have no desire to search for them.

This summer, I took a... (continue reading)

It`s open season on ethnic minorities and rabbits. They are thinking about closing it on rabbits. I dedicate this page to Annette Green, Rodney King, Amadou Diallo, Tyeisha Miller, Louima, Timothy Thomas, in Cincinnati, whose killer is free and the thousands of other slain and battered people that could be you. We Are Not Free!

.

As the US prepares for war on a nation of persons of color, I am watching the events unfold like many other wars/holocausts. It was only a matter of time. The US has terrorized many other nations. I can not understand why any person of color would fight for this country. What are they fighting for? Harassment by police? Racist policies? This country should invest in people not war. Invest in education healthcare, the homeless situation, unemployment. We still have poor health care? -John Q was not just a movie. African Americans still have unequal incomes, unequal housing and many other problems not brought on by ourselves. This system was crafted to miseducate the masses. I am beginning to understand that this system can only work if so called minorities are brought under total control, ie we must be taught to be housebroken, trained, and assigned long term duties from a very young age before we have an opportunity to question the matter...The quality of education given to lower class is of the poorest sort so that the ignorance isolating the lower class from the upper class remains incomprehensive to the lower class, with such an initial handicap, even smart lower class individual have little if any hope of extricating themselves from their assigned lot in life. This form of slavery is essential to maintaining some measure of social order, peace and tranquility for the ruling upper class.

KNOW THYSELF

"Knowing thyself" is central to growth. It is time that we ask ourselves, `What is the self, soul or essence of our people? What is the basis of the culture or lifestyle that we are attempting to perpetuate?` Truly we can not determine any of this until we first know ourselves as individuals and then collectively as people. Unfortunately, knowledge has been stolen and distorted from all people of color. Self knowledge is the key to all knowledge. Humans are a microcosm of the universe. Humans are a seed in the sense of a tree in relation to a seed. We have all the possibilities of the tree".

Breaking Mental Chain

Chattel slavery ended over a century ago however,to think that African Americans do not todaystill have psychological scars left from the brutal and inhumane treatment is false. The same psyche that the slaves had was passed to some of us. We can see examples of this.

Divide (the community) and conquer was implimented. Disunity made it easy for the master to control them. Willie Lynch a slave owner wrote...I have outlined a number of differences among the slaves.I use fear, envy and distrust to control them...you much pitch the old slave against the young slave and the young slave against the old slave. You must pitch the light skinned slave against the dark skinned slave and the dark skinned slave against the light skinned slave. Other differences are intelligence, sex, status and where they live. These are your key to control. Use them.

These categories of slaves divided the community and consumed their energies rather than directing these energies toward dealing with their status as slaves. Divided communities among people of color still persist. Think about it, fraternities, sorrorities, republican, democrat, blue collar, white collar, neighborhoods (eastside, westside, 3rd ward, 5th ward,) light skin, dark skin, schools and religion have all been used to divide us. When we have come together and the outcome has made changes. Sometimes we are unable to come together on our common problems because we are focusing on individual ones. The removal of this slave mentality is essential for our unity.
