Growing Up

Posted

It is a miracle when my teenage son and I can have a conversation. I try really hard to find things to say that we're both interested in. Most of the time it feels like I'm imposing, but that's my baby (although he would'nt like for me to reference him as that), I have to stay in touch with him and him me. The generation gap is already 'wwaaaayy' too wide. We speak the same language but, not really, due to this 'gap', which ever increasingly appears to be getting wider. So, to make better connections and bring us closer, I talk to him while taking him to school in the mornings (notice I said, I talk to him)lol.Otherwise there probably would be only the sound the radio tuned in to the TJMS show; they give the weather, time, traffic conditions, things commuters need to know and 'wow' are they funny.  My son and  I have no problems with listening to that radio show together(whew!!). Now this morning on the way to school there was no radio, just the voice of "mommy dearest' giving the pep, encouragement, caution and have a good day talk. Then, I thought to myself, he might just be interested in one of moms 'big bloopers', seems that's the one chacteristic of mine that he 'sees' and enjoys seeing. And so, I told him about an incident I had while trying to make friends, get acquainted and engage in comments on Facebook. I had read an outrageously funny comment from a Facebooker and made a response to it not realizing that those I'm responding to might just be speaking a different 'language', once again due to the 'generation gap'. The comment I responded to made several references to 'mooning someone', and I believe I know what that means and so does my son. My response to the commentor was a lyric from a beautiful love song from the 1940's tltled, "I'll Be Seeing You". So my response to this unknown facebooker  was as follows; "I'll be looking at the 'moon' and I'll be seeing you". Big mistake!! The facebooker e-mailed me, called me "miss thang and also a DB, what?? does DB mean these days(that's ok my son already told me possible meanings)lol. We,  my son and I  laughed so hard this morning and he said "mom that's the best one(blooper) you've made!!  I'm learning, part of growing up, it was a good morning!!
