A Chocolate City was created to serve as my
contribution to the positive movement of
my people, the Black Race, the African-American Race
for we are Gods Chosen People.
As you embark upon this Nubian journey,
I trust your quest for truth will guide
you through this journey of wisdom,
this enlightenment and true kindling of the soul.
No doubt, this journey will leave you
quenched and refreshed with a
new sense of awareness and a new
sense of pride in who you are and
who we are as a people.
Yes, this is a new dawn.

WELCOME TO CHOCOLATE CITY

Afrocentric poetry
Flowing from my heart
Reaching for the truth about
Our majestic start
Each one, teach one
Thats how it should be
Remember we are the chosen ones
Yahweh (God) will set us free

All the poetry and art featured here are the works of many talented African American artists. I am uplifted by these inspiring creations and contributions and felt compelled to share them with my BP family. I hope that you will be motivated towards a more positive direction and into a more enhanced existence. No need for thanks, just show your love and support.

THE COLOR OF MY SKIN

Is it the color of my eyes.
Is it the color of my skin.
Is it the thickness of my thighs.
Or is it just because you
dont know the person within.

You dont even know my name,
what I like to do
Or my favorite game,
You just judge me from what you see
But I can tell you dont know the real me.
Im in love with poetry
The words that rhyme
to describe me
is poetry

But you wouldnt know that
Because you judge me
from what you see.

My favorite music is
rap, hip-hop and r and b
But once again, you wouldn't know that
cuz you judge me
from what you see.

When I was younger my parents told me
Watch who you talk to
You turn your back and
they will slice you,
they dont know you
But they dont like you
They dont care about you
But they dont even know you

Because Im from a different nation
Because Im a different creation
Everywhere I go, its like
Im on an evaluation
Its always, always an accusation

This is a frustrating situation
Of all your domination
Towards our creation
But dont take away my education.

If it wasnt for Martin Luther King
I would be accused for everything
Because of the color,
The color of my skin
Nobody wants to know the person within

Everywhere I go
people want to know
What am I doing here
And I always get that hated stare.

Just because the color of my skin
It's like I just committed a sin
But it hurts
Because people were treated like this
This took place in history
Thats why this really hurts me.

People were killed
Because they were black
They were hated
Just because of that

This is my lifes depiction
This aint no fiction
Please dont make it a restriction
Just to live my lifes depiction

The color of my skin
Is a beautiful thing
Sometimes its hard to win
But I will always LOVE
The color of my skin

A MESSAGE TO MY PEOPLE

If the chance arose
to ask the world whatever you chose,
What would it be?

Will WE ever change?

Maybe, one day if pigs fly,
its harsh but the percentages never lie.
But thats how it is when the blind lead the blind.
Generations makin the same mistakes time after time.

These material possessions just made
to poison peoples minds.
2 year contracts turn into lifetimes.
Mental handcuffs ensures an oppressed mind.
Get rich quick but die even quicker
neighborhoods flooded with drugs, guns and liquor.

And they wonder why we dont own any property.
Hell, You better off trying to win the lottery.
And even then you still lose.
A life behind bars or addicted to booz.
A hard decision but you still have to choose.
But whatever you do, make it quick with no hesitation.
Its easier killing a people with no education.

Either way it goes theyre still gonna
end up in the same place...
Either dead or in jail.
Everybody runnin but dont know the race.
The game of life and we have failed to learn the rules.
The media blowing up the smallest issues.
One day they honor you and; If you mess up...
then they all of a sudden dont wanna sponsor you!
Look, its as simple as this
Dont believe me you can ask Michael Vick!
Or O.J. or Kobe Bryant or 90% of these rappers rhymin.
Thinkin they got it made.
Thinkin they rule the world but really they the slaves!

They dont love you, they just need you
to make money...You Dummy!
They give us a taste of freedom and
then take it away from me.
Shiny begets and a lifetime of debts, just dont add up,
or is it just me?
These meaningless possessions turned necessities.
Thats exactly what they want you to do, cant you see?

They offer you your freedom, but dont get it twisted
cuz the %#&@$! aint free!
Cuz it comes with a price, and often times its LIFE!
Nothin in this world is free... thats what my pops told me.
Threats of imprisonment and death bound us up
like a noose around our neck.
Tell me, where on this earth is anyone
ever immune to death?

Preserve what priorities you have left.
Make your money stretch, get out of debt,
buy a house, and you are set.
Your on your way to the American Dream
but thats only the first step.
Wars in foreign lands, playin the middle east police,
While my people here at home still livin in the streets!

The days have come and gone
puttin blacks on the front lines.
Cold dead bodies layin in a trench or in wells.
Makin our people fight amongst themselves.
Draft for what?!
They dont need us in the army cuz we killin ourselves!

What happened to the days of MALCOLM
preachin in the streets?
They killin our leaders, we cant use our voice
or open our mouths to speak.
So dont be nieve cuz they out for me...
Because they even killed the king out on his balcony!
Ali went back to the mother land
And; when he got off his flight
he seen beautiful black people
not a nigga in sight!

So get out the box, let your mind be free.
And let your light shine for the world to see.
Im doin this for those back in slavery
Who went through the struggle just so I could BE!!
But like MARTIN said, there'll be better days for mines.

AND I CANT WAIT TIL THE DAY
WHEN MY PEOPLE SHINE
I RAISE A BLACK FIST FOR MY PEOPLES PRIDE

BUT I CANT UNDERSTAND FOR THE LIFE OF ME,
WHY MY PEOPLE JUST CANT LIVE RIGHTEOUSLY?

A MESSAGE TO THE WORLD
THAT THE "SON" HAS SHOWN...
LIBERATE YOUR MIND AND LETS GO BACK HOME

BLACK QUEEN
I was born with not a silver spoon,
Black Queen but a golden spear in my hand.
Black Queen I was taught to be strong,
and not to fear the white man.
Stolen from my homeland
where the streets were paved with gold,
and bought to this country
where I was stripped of my soul.
Brought here on a slave ship
shackled and bound in chains.
Robbed of my heritage,
and given my masters sir name.
I have survived the long and restless
journey of the slave ship.
I have endured the painful lashes
of the masters whip.
I had babies in the cotton fields,
and was back in the big house in time,
to cook my masters meals.
I prayed, while master had his way
with me in the slave quarters.
I cried as I watched him sell
my sons and daughters.
You wonder who am I, that I can endure, these things,
I am the mother of a warrior
and the daughter of a King.
I am the Black Queen.

WE ARE NUBIANS - WE ARE GREAT

In days of old, men longed for gold,
and Nubia-Kush was king.
It was a time, was so sublime
and we had everything.
Cause Nubians we, the Chosen be,
who built the Sphinx so old,
ten thousand years, it stood our fears,
the rain, the heat, the cold.
We made the Nile, its crocodiles,
flow just the way we pleased.
We built great dams, and mighty rams,
and all our great cities.
Their names still ring, with pride and zing,
whenever they are said.
That's why we know, of Great Meroe,
they've never left our heads.
We did invent, what others spent,
their time to learn and copy.
Like that called steel, and iron wheels,
our goods were far from sloppy.
Our mystry schools, made the first rules,
of science, math, great thought.
We taught the Greeks, to build with bricks,
our wisdom that they sought.
Our pyramids, stood on their grids,
about four score and five.
We built to last, in ages past,
yet still they stand alive.
Our mighty castles, withstood all battles,
and so the Temehou,
took from Buhen, what they had seen,
and built in their lands too.
A great long wall, so thick and tall,
we built long before China,
when Nubian Pharaohs, ruled as Khem's heroes,
and kept the Nomu from her.
And Montu saw, us all through war,
and Amun did we build, from solid rock,
temples for flock, with oxen in the field.
To ancient Nok, our longest walk,
was made from Nubia,
and still our lives, were civilized,
People of the Great River.
So when you hear, what woun't endear,
just think back to this verse,
for we are great. not wount be late,
we will be back to first.
They call us out our sacred name,
their evil faces look us with scorn,
they think they can put us to shame,
but we are Nubians, Great, and
Great We Are Born.

BLACK PEOPLE,
AFRICA IS YOU

AFRICA IS YOU
Black people,
Whatever shade
your skin may be.
You are Africa,
Always Africa to me.
She dances in your eyes
To the drum beat
that is your heart.
Her roots have crossed waters
From Nigeria to New York.
Her spirit lives on,
In this black spectrum she is us.
Echoing in our laughter,
Our pain and sorrow too.
Black people you are Africa,
Africa is you.

Societies Perception of Beauty

Societies perception of beauty
doesn't represent me,
but nether the less in me
I see true beauty.
With big brown eyes,
and skin the colour of dark chocolate,
tall and slim but with shapely hips
and full lips, this is me;
I represent Nubian beauty
and though society doesn't represent me,
I stand up proud cos
I'm an African queen.

lets talk about God

sometimes its hard foe me to talk about God
because i dont know where to start
the one thing i know
He lives deep within my heart

should i talk about how
He wrapped hisself up in humanity
came down for 42 generations
and lived to die for me

He had so much love to give
He died so that i could live
He rose from the grave
so that i could be saved

should i talk about
all the blessings He bestows upon me
but because they're not material
its hard for others to see

or should i talk about
how each morning He breathes life into me
how He gives me to voice to speak
and vision so that i can see

should i talk about all the ways He was there for me
and kept me safe in His arms
when i was doing wrong
He picked me up and said stay strong

i thought it would be hard for me to talk about God
i didnt realize that i had so much to say
i just wanna thank Jesus
for giving me this day

WON'T THEY BE SURPRISED
WHEN THEY GET TO HEAVEN?

In the beginning was He and
He created Adam and Eve
In Africa, by the Euphrates it all came to be
Not in Europe nor in America
Sit back and let me enlighten ya
It wasn't because of "Big Bang"
or the evolution of some primitive tribes
All theses centuries they have convinced themselves
into believing in their own manifested lies
White washed and washed white
Propaganda in the worst way to justify their bite
Twisting and turning reality to fit
Taking ownership in America
when they ain't done %#&@$!
Pick that cotton, till that land,
and when ya get finished strike up the band
You can't read and you can't write
And if ya get too uppity,
I'll hang you on sight
Won't they be surprised when they get to heaven

Physical slavery was the forte'
Now they attempt to enslave
us through prisons, drugs and our pay
Killing off man, woman, and child
their tactics aren't even mild
Taken from our native land
Stripped of our culture
Brainwashed by the master adulterer
An ignorant attempt to dilute our color
by raping our women and murdering my brother?
Don't you know the strength of our genes
We reign from a race of Kings and Queens
Don't be deceived, God is not mocked
How dare you think that
you are his chosen flock
Won't you be surprised when you get to heaven?

Feet likened unto bronze and hair like wool
Is it all a lie or are you just a damn fool?
A fool trying to hold on to
what you have stolen, bamboozled, and plotted for
When and if you get to heaven,
what do you think you shall
see behind its door
It wont be blue eyes and blonde hair
The truth of the matter being,
it will be probably be something
you can't even bear
So, you may try to kill me
with your prejudice and your lies
but like Maya Angelou said..."and still I rise"
Enlighten yourselves while there is still time
Time to understand the "truth
behind the master lie
so you won't be surprised when you get to heaven
