Walter Eugene Massey, an American educator, physicist, and business leader, was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on April 5, 1938. Massey graduated from Morehouse College in 1958 and received his PhD from Washington University in St. Louis. He served as the ninth president of Morehouse College from 1995 to 2007. Massey served as the director of the National Science Foundation under George H. W. Bush and Senior Provost of the University of California System. Dr. Massey is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He serves or has served as a board member to several of America's leading companies, including Bank of America, BP Oil, Motorola, and McDonalds. On June 1, 1995, Massey was named the ninth president of Morehouse College. He served as president until the end of the 2006-2007 academic year. During his 10-year tenure, he spearheaded a $120 million fundraising campaign in support of his agenda to make Morehouse one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the world.
