Joshua McCain is a Neo-Soul/Jazz musician from Caldwell Texas, a small town outside of Houston. His musical journey began when he moved to Jackson, Mississippi and started playing organ at the age of ten for his father's local church. In 1996 he and his brother Bobby created the Soul 7 Band and began performing cover songs around the Jackson, MS metro area, providing entertainment for local clubs, weddings, corporate events, and political functions. Desiring to break in to the music industry, in 2000 Joshua started Soul 7 Music Group, a record label that showcased the talent of local artist. He and his brother Bobby Felder Jr, who is also a producer, has worked with such local artist as Martel, a Hip Hop/Spoken Word artists ,and R&B/Neo-Soul artist Malcolm Shepherd, who guest appears on Simply Music the first record released by Joshua McCain. The two producers have also worked with artist across the world in places such as Brazil and London. After graduating from Jackson State University, Joshua decided to focus his efforts on producing and running his label. However by not having an artist of his own at the time he was inspired to become an artist himself and began working on his debut album "Simply Music" . This record is a Jazzy/Neo-Soul work of art with smooth piano solos. Although mostly instrumentals, with the help of his brother Bobby and vocalist Malcolm Shepherd, Joshua was able to create a vibe of Teddy Pendergrass mixed with Dwele and Musiq Soulchild. The album was influenced by a variety of artist in genres ranging from R&B, Gospel, Jazz, and Hip-Hop. Some of the major influences were Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Prince, The Roots, Jill Scott, Miles Davis, and Herbie Hancock. His debut album "Simply Music" was also entirely produced and written by Joshua McCain and brother Bobby. Joshua has just finished his second album "Perfect Timing" which is set to be released in 2009. He is also producing gospel greats The Mighty Kings of Harmony's next album. Be on the lookout for this promising new producer and artist.
