Why do people lie about their relationship status?

If my relationship is not working and I am not happy, then I need to fix it. If my relaionship has come to the point that it is unfixable, I want out, plain and simple! So why lie and get caught up? Just to let the liars know, the people who get fed your lies already know your game, for some reason they flow with it and in the end the liar or the person being lied to gets caught up emotionally. So , Why do people lie about their relationship status?
