I was fortunate to be able to grow up seeing America from varied viewpoints. My childhood was spent in Hawaii and Indonesia. After college I worked as a community organizer on the South side of Chicago focusing on improving living conditions in poor neighborhoods.

I came to understand that to truly solve the problems facing our communities, it would take a change in our laws and our politics. I ran and served for seven years in the Illinois state Senate, where I fought for expanding children's health care, providing tax cuts for the working poor and enacting welfare reform. In 2004, I was elected to the U.S. Senate, where I have worked to pass laws securing dangerous weapons and making government more accountable. I have also opposed the Iraq war from the start, and believe that we need to bring our troops home so we can refocus on the wider struggle against terrorism.

Of all my life experiences, I am most proud of my wife Michelle and my daughters Malia and Sasha.

Ok Mr. President, first I must say, thank you. Thank you for asserting your position when defending the rights of the American people. I watched your address to the nation and your visit to the GOP summit. Thank you for the transparency, and your attention to detail.
I must say, you had me researching articles 1, 2, and three of the Constitution. If you will, I would like to share what I found. I expect to be graded fairly:
Ok, so on February 1, 2010 President Obama ?defends his $3.83 trillion budget?. You can see the ?defense? in its entirety at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/35158320#35182776.
I had the luxury of hearing this defense with my own ears, and am in agreement with what President Obama is proposing. So he ?sends a budget to congress which reflects the serious challenges facing the country over the coming years.?
President Obama: Our Economy has lost 7 million jobs over the last two years and our government is deeply in debt??
Andrea: Today I accompanied my friend to his VA appointment and as soon as I stepped in the door, President Obama was front and center, speaking to concerned citizens in New Hampshire. (Nice); my thoughts averted back to his address from the White House concerning the budget proposal.
Sitting next to me was a wise woman. I noticed the attention she was paying to what President Obama was saying. Sensing a common ground between her and me, I shared with her my thoughts concerning the backlash the president is receiving on the heels of this new budget proposal. My thoughts are simply this, we are no longer 13 colonies, we are 50 states and that?s what the deficit reflects.
President Obama: Where at war?Our government?s in debt and the fact is, 10 years ago we had a budget surplus of more than two hundred billion dollars with projected surpluses...Previous administration and previous congress created an expensive new drug program, massive tax cuts for the wealthy, and funded two wars that has never been paid for all of which was compounded by a recession and rising health care cost?.
Andrea?: As a result, upon taking office, President Obama and his new administration was faced with a ?deficit of 1.3 trillion dollars with projected deficits of 8 trillion dollars over the next decade?? What is a President to do? Please follow the above link to watch the full video.
America, I only ask that we take time to think about cause and effect. We deal with this aspect of reality almost on a daily basis. We must all take accountability for our actions. That includes the powers that be.
President Obama was elected because the American people sensed the poor state of our otherwise perfect union and understood something must be done. Let?s hold accountable those individuals who have a duty to ?establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity??
Enough with being preachy, I want to end this long letter with something I uncovered. Two minutes and twenty five seconds into the televised correspondent, President Obama began to lay out in detail what his budget will include. Check this out; in my Constitutional Law book, there are Supreme Court Opinions. One particular Supreme Court opinion stood out the most to me. Clinton v. City of New York 524 U.S. 417, (1998); Justice Stevens delivered the opinion of the court.
The above mentioned case involved the Line Item Veto Act which gives the President the power to ?cancel in whole? three types of revision that has been signed into law. Ok, this is where I have my uh huh moment, when I realized that this man, President Barack Obama is indeed doing it by the book. See if you noticed this as well.
After watching this video, read Justice Stevens opinion and let me know if you get it. Let?s continue to hold any elected official accountable that shows disregard for the American people and the state of our union. Greed should not win in the end. Recovery is never over night, and one year in office won?t get the job done either. Let?s keep that in mind. It will take at least another 7 to ensure stability.

I listened carefully to your state of the union address?
And from the moment you spoke of ??the promise enshrined in our constitution?, to your last word, I felt as though you were speaking directly to me in answer to the questions I?d asked you.
Don?t misunderstand me. I know you were speaking to the entire nation. But I felt every word of what you said, not because it was you who said it, but because I could hear the truth in your words? the truth as you would have it, if it is in your power.
I want you to know that I never doubted you. No one could possibly expect one man to change the world. But one man can change the minds of other men. And you, sir, I believe, can do that.
The reason I asked those questions of ?you? is because of all of the men and women in office that should be there to represent the people, you are the only one of them who truly intends to do just that... to represent the people and their best interests.
Even if you never saw the comments I left on this page? in fact, especially if you never saw them, the fact that you addressed those issues in your speech proves that your eyes are open to what is happening in our government and all across the nation ?proof that you see all that causes the citizens of this nation to suffer, and that you intend to do something about it. Or, at the very least, really try. Which is all any of us can ask of any President.
I believed you when you said that you would not quit.
So believe me when I say that I offer my pen (as I am a writer, if nothing else), my words (as I have an art for them, if only a little more) and the truth as I see it (as I am merely a man) in support of your efforts to give back to the people the promise that was stolen from us by those who preceded you. And I, sir, will not quit.

It's time for a payroll tax cut. Let the common people know that you care. Dump your advisors. Why can't we use reconciliation to pass bills? The Republicans did not hesitate to use it when they were in power. You should have called the members of Congress into a room and said, " This is the health care bill that I want!" How could Obama send bush and clinton to head the aide to Haiti along with the 82nd Airborne? Looks like New Orleans all over again. The death in Haiti will only continue.
