personal message

Greetings,

My web name is Brownting, which is an insignificance... my friends call me Empresss

Welcome to My World........

WHO AM I?

Well, firstly I am a black woman.... Strong?? you`d have to ask those that know me...

Does the description 'black woman' have a particular signifiance? yes it does... to me at least. Being a black woman means encorporating generations of women who have been imagnative, reliable, selfless, multiskilled, steadfast, supportive, nurturing, Being a black woman means standing in the face of adversity and challenging it to do it's worst in the knowledge that as many times as I am put on my %#&@$!... I will rise to face it again! It means I have a limitless capacity to love... through pain and joy... but she also has the capacity for self preservation because the black woman knows that if she is no good to herself... she is no good to anyone else. She has knowledge that far outweighs acadmia, she has beauty that radiates from within like the heat from the sun, she is the beginning of this civilisation and from her all others flow. She is a Queen!

I was an RN for 15yrs however I gave the practice a break in order to pursue other avenues. I now work in education, 7yr history of a secondary school. Now I teach in 3 schools. Would I work in the private sector? In a word, NO! I think education should be on the same level regardless of personal finances. I like to think I have the gift of understanding, patience and caring. A gift to share, however, I do have bills to pay, so I don`t do it for nothing!

I am a proud parent of 4 great children, my pride and joy. A boy and 3 girls; they make parenting seem easy.

SPARE TIME?

I lke to sing, ballads mostly, jazz, motown that sort of thing, just for fun.. I like to swim and go to the gym to keep my body ticking over. I study part-time to keep the mind ticking over and I socialize to keep the heart and soul ticking over.

LIKES & DISLIKES

I like the smell of freshly ground coffee and freshly baked bread. I like to see people coming together and haivng good wholesome fun. (ever seen the faces in a crowd of black people who are enjoying each others company? NOTHING LIKE IT!)

I like to see the pride on the face of parents, when thier child has realised a potential. (did you see Mrs. Woods face when Tiger won the Grand Slam? PRICELESS!!)

I like going to dinner with friends, the comraderie over the table, the debates, the jokes, the sharing and experiencing different foods, the company. To me its the height of togetherness. I like reggae music. Some of my more favoured artistes are, Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond, Freddie McGregor, Gregory Issacs, Delroy Wilson, Bob Marley, Donna Marie..... the list goes on.
I DISLIKE..... TEA!!! what a boring, taste bad drink!! The taste of coffee and negativity.... Negativity limits the mind, surpresses individualism and is the basis of underacheivement in the black community!!!

MY INSPIRATION?

I generally glean inspiration from the people around me.... My mother is my greatest influence....`love you mum` my brothers and sister, that paved the way into society.... friends that keep my feet firmly on the ground. Thanks Mum, Lee, Gina, Jen, Karen, Jaques for the support and love shown to me over the years.

Other things I get inspiration from are quotes that I`ve picked up along the way, here are some that are particular favourites... Starting with the one that sums up my attitude to life.

`The most common way people give up their power, is by thinking they don`t have any.`

`Great minds discuss ideas

Average minds discuss events

Small minds discuss people.`

`Learn from the mistakes of others, you can`t live long enough to make them all yourself.`

`To love and be loved, is to feel the sun on both sides.`

Knowledge is not power until you have the skill of application. If you liked these I have a lot more, and would love to share them with you. Just leave a message in the guest book.

In closing I would like to send out a big YUSH!! to my fellow chatters in Blackchat.... especially.... Shabaka....Love you to the max. Tashini, BBD.... you joker, Perri, Blacka, MIz B, Groove Rider, Cakelady, TKA, MoneyPenny, Magnum and all the others that are too many to type out.... You know who you are.

Well that`s my world, stay and listen to the extracts of the album, browse and let me know what you think.

Now... this is all well and good and for many of women probably goes for us too in many respects... only problem for me is... What if my man doesn't do all those things... does it mean he doesn't love me? does it mean he doesn't have a romantic bone in his body? should I be worried? Sometimes a girl just shouldn't read too much!

Hello

Posted

Boy, has it really been neary two months since I had something to say? Wow...

Well today I looked through my window and saw the first buds on the cherry tree... for me Spring is officially here. Yipee!

I went to the funeral of a woman who ran a pub that I frequent... very surreal... it was well attended as you can imagine, made me think about my own mortality, I suppose it does that... I thought how effective have I been as an individual. Has my life been of any benefit to anyone other than my... (continue reading)

What do you see in the mirror?

Posted

When I look in the mirror I'm embarrassed!

Yup, I said it! I've got a stomach that seems to start under my chin and a 'belly that hangs over like a shirt'. You see, although I have a relatively good diet, however, I don't do any structured exercise. So how on earth do I expect to look in the mirror and see anything else?

'God' didn't make me like this, I was born an average baby, I was an active teenager and used to go out dancing for hours on end 3/4 times a week. Then I got... (continue reading)
