The constellation Leo can
be easily seen looking South in the Spring night sky. Leo which
means "The Lion" was named by the Greeks. In the Greek myth, Leo
was the lion in which Hercules killed as the first of his twelve
chores. The bright star at the bottom of the "sickle shape" is
called Regulus. The name was given to this star by a famous
astronomer named Copernicus.
This zodiacal
constellation is unmistakably shaped liked the lion from which it
takes its name. It contains the well-known blue dwarf star Regulus,
and a number of spiral galaxies.
