personal message

I've really been a member since 2/01 (RoseAnn_18), but I decided to start over. I am a 25 year old woman (and a lady) with a lovely 3 year old son. I am a Graduate of Kentucky State University. Hail to my Alma Mater! I love God and life and all that God has helped me experience in this life. I love to hang with a small group of friends, only because I'm a little shy, not stuck-up. I still love to meet new people. (Hence my page on BP) I just love to laugh and have a good time. I will put up some more recent pictures My son is a lot bigger now. I am saved, sanctified, filled with the Holy Ghost and do speak in tongues as the spirit of God gives utterance and I'm striving everyday to keep myself in check. I hope I can find some kindred spirits to mingle with while I'm on here, if this is you, send me a note. By the way I love food, movies, music (jazz, neo-soul and gospel), black art and animals

I am a Black Woman by Mari Evans

I am a black woman
the music of my song
some sweet arpeggio of tears
is written in a minor key
and I
can be heard humming in the night
Can be heard
humming
in the night

I saw my mate leap screaming to the sea
and I/with these hands/cupped the lifebreath
from my issue in the canebrake
I lost Nat's swinging body in a rain of tears
and heard my son scream all the way from Anzio
for Peace he never knew....I
learned Da Nang and Pork Chop Hill
in anguish
Now my nostrils know the gas
and these trigger tire/d fingers
seek the softness in my warrior's beard

I am a black woman
tall as a cypress
strong
beyond all definition still
defying place
and time
and circumstance
assailed
impervious
indestructible
Look
on me and be
renewed

THIS POEM IS A SHOUT OUT TO ALL OF MY BLACK MEN! NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS, YOU ARE ROYALTY!

Strong Men by Sterling A. Brown

They dragged you from homeland, They chained you in coffles, They huddled you spoon-fashion in filthy hatches, They sold you to give a few gentlemen ease. They broke you in like oxen, They scourged you, They branded you, They made your women breeders, They swelled your numbers with bastards. . . . They taught you the religion they disgraced. You sang: Keep a-inchin? along Lak a po' inch worm. . . . You sang: Bye and bye I'm gonna lay down dis heavy load . . . You sang: Walk togedder, chillen, Dontcha git weary. . . . The strong men keep a-comin' on The strong men git stronger. They point with pride to the roads you built for them They ride in comfort over the rails you laid for them, They put hammers in your hands And said?Drive so much before sundown. You sang: Ain't no hammah In dis lan', Strikes lak mine, bebby, Strikes lak mine. They cooped you in their kitchens, They penned you in their factories, They gave you the jobs that they were too good for, They tried to guarantee happiness to themselves By shunting dirt and misery to you. You sang: Me an' muh baby gonna shine, shine Me an? muh baby gonna shine. The strong men keep a-comin? on The strong men git stronger. . . . They bought off some of your leaders You stumbled, as blind men will. . . . They coaxed you, unwontedly soft-voiced. . . . You followed a way. Then laughed as usual. They heard the laugh and wondered; Uncomfortable; Unadmitting a deeper terror. . . . The strong men keep a-comin' on Gittin' stronger. . . . What, from the slums Where they have hemmed you What, from the tiny huts They could not keep from you? What reaches them Making them ill at ease, fearful? Today they shout prohibition at you Thou shalt not this. Thou shalt not that. Reserved for whites only. You laugh. One thing they cannot prohibit The strong men . . . coming on The strong men gittin stronger. Strong men. . . . Stronger. . . .

Are Black Women Necessary?

Posted

First of all, I encourage everyone to either read or get some information on the Book, Don't Blame it on Rio. You all, this book is poison to the Black intelligent mind of both men and women. Just some of the chapter titles even bother me. For example, "Are Black Women Necessary?" "So This is How it Feels to be White" "Fat, Black and Ugly: Size does Matter." These are only a few of the chapters, but that's enough for me. They had the audacity to send me a... (continue reading)

Educating our Kids about sex is the Christian thing to do

Posted

Well I grew up in church and my parents were saved too, so I knew about abstinence. But the mistake some Christian parents make is telling their kids to abstain, but they don't tell them how or why (besides it's a sin). Had I known that there was so much out there besides Hell I wouldn't have started having sex so early (16). I agree with teaching abstinence but we need to tell them ALL of the reasons why. There is pregnancy, STD's, even a bad reputation (for males and females) and lets not... (continue reading)

The Village mentality

Posted

So I have been thinking for a while about how we as Black people have lost a lot of our "Africanness." Our families have become very independent of one another, when in times past, black families supported each other on a regular basis. It was a normal thing to buy groceries for a family in your neighborhood that was struggling, or to get into trouble twice when you act up down the street at the neighbor's house(whooping at home and their house lol). My thing is, we should bring that back, I... (continue reading)
