THE SUBURBS
( 1 ). First and foremost, I extend to you peace and many blessings. Also, I must say to you that I've known you all my life. After having been raised in a family dominated by women. I say to you that " I understand." And as a son of a single mother " I understand." As a brother of seven sisters " I understand." As a man who has loved hard and who has lost much " I understand." As weekend father again, " I understand." To the sister who feels abandon by the black man in general. I say to you that " I understand." Because right at this very moment, I cannot explain the why's or the how comes? Why, we as black men have treated you less than the queen that you are. Funny, my most fondest memories were woven together by the strong black women in my family. My grandmother, was a woman that many would say no longer exisits in today's world. As a man, she is the backbone that made me stand tall enough to look you in the eye to say to you at this moment that I love you, and need you to be the woman that God has designed you to be. Strong, Kind, Loving. For it serves no purpose, in you being angry to the point of tears. Or mad enough at me, to cause me tears. I once heard someone say that if you fail to dream you will sleep through your life. How often have I closed my eye's and ask God to heal all the indifferences that exist between you and I. Dream? Do you know I've never seen the ocean nor have I ever sat down by a Riverside. But, I have seen my sister's cry enough tears to fill the rain clouds in the sky. And oh,did I mentioned that I was a poet. Well, in my life travels I had often been told that my vision far out exceeds my expections or belief that I have any type of writing abilty. All I know ? Is that it just flows ( like a river) out naturally. Where, I'm I trying to go with all of this? I don't know but I do hope that " I, my words,." will stay with you my beauitful Queen on this wonderful journey called life...
