Recommend this profile to your Facebook friends. personal message![]() TO DARK N LOVELYS SPOT... Hey BP Family, I am Dark N Lovely. I have been on the Planet for some time now, since 2000. I used to be Dark N Lovely_123 until I made the mistake of putting one wrong word on my page. They canned me after 8 years. I had to start all over again. So here I am, starting over. I have to rebuild my BP World. I have been surfing the Planet looking for friends, new and old. I have run across a lot of cool people since I have been hanging around the Planet, some still here and others are gone now. The Planet has changed a lot since I first joined. It was a different place around here. However, things do change and we just have to accept them and move on. So, I moved on from this. . .
Before I go any further, let me say that I am really into designing pages. I love to create beautiful (and informative) pages. I often surf the web in search of beautiful art and poetry to display on my pages. I invite you to check out my other pages by clicking the links below. Now these pages are also an opportunity for me to show off my html skills, too. So, if you need a little help with your own page, feel free to ask, I will be more than happy to help. The first page is my poetry page, Its All About Poetry. On this page, I have displayed the works of some gifted African-American poets and artists. Sometimes poetry is hard to decipher, but the poems I have chosen are truly uplifting and inspiring and most of all, easy to comprehend. They speak to the soul in a medicinal manner, you know - medicine to heal the soul. It is a demonstration of my loving and compassionate side. It is an expression of my soul. It is Afroetry.
![]() This page, Its All About Poetry, is a lovers forum of sorts, not in the sense of lovemaking, but in the sense of a lover of the poetry and the arts, Afroetry and Art, that is. Of course, it is impossible to discuss and enjoy poetry, even write poetry, without thinking of love and passion. So romance, love and poetry all go hand in hand. So the name of the game is LOVE.
Is that enough to arouse your senses or perhaps your curiosity. I truly hope so. So just take that trip over to my page and leave some love on my spot. If you like, let me hear from you. If you rhyme, let me know. Send me something to spotlight on my page at athumph@yahoo.com. ![]() BabiTag Comments - Sassy Trendy Sexy My other page, A Chocolate City, is really my pride and joy. It is truly a Chocolate City featuring all things Chocolate. In Chocolate City, it is a Black Thang. What does FUBU say, For Us By Us. Well this page is definitely for us and by us. The poetry and artwork in Chocolate City is strong and bold, Black Pride, spoken loudly and proudly, as it should be. I invite you to embark upon this journey of awareness and knowledge of self, your Black self, your African-American self. Yes, this page is fierce and it speaks to your pride, pride in who we are, what we stand for, what we live and die for, and all the great things that we, as a people, have contributed to this world. A visit to this page is a must. Please be my guest.
Now in my journey to start a new, I have discovered there are some creative people on the Planet. While looking for friends, I found a lot of unique and interesting pages. Some of these people are totally awesome! Their pages are off the chain. I will highlight some of them later. In the meantime, I secretly aspire to be one of the great ones on the Planet. I have helped a lot of people in past times to set up their pages, but like I said, things have changed a lot since then. So, it looks like I am doing a lot of starting over. So, for all friends and visitors to my spot, if you happen to know anything about HTML or have any suggestions or good places to find interesting graphics, please hit me up. I am on the prowl for new and exciting stuff, and anyone who can help me hook up my page. Give me a holla if you are that someone. Thanks. And, as always, you know Dark N Lovely Loves Her Brothas and Sistas. First and foremost, I am an avid music lover. I think it is one of my greatest passions. I have a mad collection ranging from old skool Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Jazz, Blues, Hip Hop, and some old Pop, like the Bee Gees and Air Supply and Hall and Oates, to name only a few. I am not really into today's pop music. I am not a Britney Spears or Beyonce fan. They are okay, but I would not buy their music. But now I'm definitely feeling Justin Timberlake, and I would and did buy his music. But I am still more about that old Pop. Above all, I am truly the ultimate Frankie Beverly and Maze fan! Here is a little known fact about Frankie Beverly I bet you did not know. . . Secular music entered Frankie's life when he was around eight or nine: "The first record I can remember was Lloyd Price's "Lawdy Miss Clawdy." I heard it and said, 'what's this?' I loved it! But it was Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers who really turned my world upside down. In fact, I was so blown away by Frankie that I changed my own name - my birth name is Howard! But after I heard Frankie and the guys, I was totally bitten. I knew every one of their hits - "Why Do Fools Fall In Love," "I Want You To Be My Girl," "Who Can Explain?," "The ABCs Of Love"... Every time they appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show," I was glued to the t.v. and whenever they came to town to appear at The Uptown Theater, I was right there. In fact, seeing Frankie was the catalyst for me to want to get into music. He was young, just like me, and he was up there doing it, making a living in music. . . Frankie Beverly" How bout that? Frankie's real name is Howard! I have loved Frankie for a lifetime. I have followed him from New Orleans, LA to Largo, MD and Washington D.C. That's My Man! If you want to know me, just know Frankie. When I heard my first Maze song and heard the sultry vocals of Frankie Beverly, I felt the love coming through the speakers. I remember thinking, "This man is my soul mate!" I dictate the words and Frankie puts them to music. He is the best; proven by his everlasting stability and his continued ability to sell-out shows without having made any new music for several years. Now you know you got to be touched by a higher power to withstand time as Frankie Beverly and Maze has done. That's because his words are true to life, a philosophy to live and love by.
My collection includes Maze, the Isley Brothers, Jaheim, DeAngelo, Joe, Tank, Tyrese, Jon B., Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, O'Jays, Shaggy, Maxi Priest, The Jacksons, Stephanie Mills, Usher, Lloyd, Floetry, Musiq Soul Child, Raphael Saadiq, and R. Kelly to name only a few. But now I am a big fan of my boy, the great Bob Marley. So you know I had to shine a special "Spotlight" on him. Ya feel me
My collection includes Jay-Z, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Ying Yang Twins, Bonz Thugs and Harmony, Whodini, Ciara, and several others. But right now, the baddest boy on the Hip-Hop scene for me is newcomer, Plies with some of the baddest jams I have heard, Shawty and Hypnotized! I'm feeling him cause "Lames make me sick, too!" LOL! I am also into my Blues and Soul. I also have Barry White, Tyrone Davis, Johnnie Taylor, Al Green, Bobby Bland, Betty Wright, Aretha Franklin, newcomer T.K. Soul, and lots of others. But I love the sounds of B.B. King. In my book, no one puts it down like the great B.B.King and Lucille!
Guess you can say I am somewhat versatile when it comes to music. I love it all, even some country like Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton, LOL. But I am mostly into the sultry soul singers. In the words of Lauryn Hill, whom I love, too: They must have something to say - something worthwhile. I need a little substance if you know what I mean. Lauryn said it best in the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Although I love R. Kelly, let's face it, sometimes the content of his songs lack depth, shall we say. LOL! I'm sure you know what I mean. That's not to say that my boy doesn't put out the real stuff, too because Chocolate City is off the chain! I think I probably have about 8 R. Kelly CDs. But, people like Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Jaheim, Gerald LeVert, to name only a few, I feel their music speaks to the soul, to the lover. Like that Usher, "Confessions." I think I played that thing until it was scratched and I had to go buy another one. LOL. And, I could not possibly leave out the first artist I ever had and still have a true crush on, PRINCE, the Artist formerly known as Prince, Prince Rodger Nelson. Call him what you wanna, but I love all of them. I have had an ongoing love affair with Prince since Hot and Wet. He still gets me in just that condition. LOL! In my book, he is one of the most talented, if not the most talented, artists in the business now or before. The man is a musical genius. And speaking of musical geniuses, of course, who can forget Stevie Wonder. . ."Show me how to do like you, show me how to do it." If you know Stevie, then you know about "Hotter than July," and that song. I always wanted to learn how to play the piano, too. I still do and that's something I plan to do before I die! My goodness, MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC! I JUST LOVE MUSIC! ![]()
WHAT CAN I SAY, HOVA. . . THE GREATEST!
BEEN LOVIN THIS BOY SINCE HE WAS A BOY!
THEY NASTY, BUT I LIKE EM! LOL!.
IS THIS BOY TALENTED OR WHAT?
THIS BOY IS GOING TO BE ONE OF THE GREATS!
AND LAST, BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, IS THIS SEXY THANG RIGHT HERE! I am into quite a few other things, too. I enjoy reading. I love things of beauty, art, poetry, sculpture, and all things amazing to the eye. I am constantly in search of new and intriguing finds to display on my page. I feel compelled to retain those things that capture my eye and/or attention. I have taken the liberty of profiling just a few of the beautiful things I have discovered. Some of my finds you may have seen and some maybe not. But, if you are feeling my gallery, comment me or send a note and let me know what you think. Hey Guys, Im inviting you all to go and check out my new page, ItsAllAboutPoetry. For those of you who love poetry as I do, this is the spot. I have collected a few poems from some talented poets. I invite you to submit your own poem if you got it going on like that. Got something to say, know how to say it, then this is where you can say it loud. And yes, it is a Black thang, just like me. LOL. Just click the hot bar below and you are off to DarkNLovelys House of Poetry. See something you like, hit me back and let me know. See something you dont like, do the same. I invite all critics, good and bad, just be tactful. No BS allowed and definitely, no stealing. Even if you have run across a nice piece of work from some other artists, let me hear from you. I would love to vibe. Just in case you didnt get the message above.
![]() Now, I myself am not a poet. But, I love it just the same. I am one of the many who are moved by the ability of an individual to speak to your soul, to your heart, to your trials, to your tribulations and personal battles, with a simple manipulation of words. I always try to feel where the writer is coming from, and if I can relate, that just makes it all the better. If not, well I just enjoy the ride. Like I said, I am not a poet, but I did put together a little something to persuade you to check out my House of Poetry. So here goes. ![]() I LOVE POETRY An Exclusive by Dark N Lovely I love the spoken word of poetry But Im not too good at this rhyme Sadly, thats a fact I cannot deny. But to introduce you to this world of poetry, I will give it a sincere and heartfelt try. If poetry is your bag and ur feelin this flo, Then this poetic ride will move you for sho! It is my intent to lift your spirit, as well as your mind So dont rush this ride, take your time. My purpose is to appeal to your intellectual side And perhaps help build a stronger sense of pride To provide insight into the depths of the soul To feed a burning fire growing cold. We as a People are soaring higher day-by-day Knocking down obstacles that protrude our way No longer can they hold us at bay Our philosophy is let no man stand in our way. Yeah, the Black Man (and woman) has arrived Today, we control our own lives I mean just take a look around A BLACK MAN FOR PRESIDENT How in the world does that sound? Black People in control of our own lives Making our own destiny Remember when Dr. King only dreamed of a day When that would be By Dark N Lovely ![]() Now back to the matter at hand. I love to bake. I love to cook. Let me say for the record, I am the master of both! I also love to travel. I have been to many cities and taken a few cruises to places like Mexico and the Virgin Islands. I really love plays. I am a big Tyler Perry fan. And MOVIES, well that's my obsession. I have a collection that includes more than 500 VHS movies and even more DVDs. I LOVE MOVIES! I am particularly fund of horror movies, but I love all kinds of movies. I try not to get into "issue" movies, and for some reason, I never really take to the more "popular" movies that the general public like. Some of my favorites are Lackawanna Blues, Uptown Saturday Night, The Wiz, Face Off, Malcolm X, Man on Fire, The Shining, Evil Dead, A Soldier's Story, Fallen, Bad Boys, and so, so many more! Man, I cannot tell you guys how many different movies I have. Just know I am the movie Queen. I am like Blockbuster in this thang! Everyone comes to me to check out movies. I collect all the good ones as soon as they come out, usually on Tuesdays. So you know, I know. LOL! For me, the man dominating the screen and my collection is Mr. Denzel Washington! ![]() Denzel is the greatest actor! ANYTHING HE PUTS OUT, I AM ON IT! Needless to say, I have everything he's been in! BUT ON THE REAL, I WATCH COURT TV EVERYDAY. Everyone should watch that show. If you do not, you would be shocked at the things that people do for money, jealousy, love, hate, and everything else. I have learned so much about the world, about the law and how they operate, and about people in general just watching that show. Did you guys know that the lady who was the cause of the tamper-free seals on medicines was trying to collect $40K in insurance on her husband. She put poison in her his cold capsules to cause an accidental death. When the autopsy said it was natural causes, and she was only going to get $20K from the insurance company, this nut killed another woman by putting the poison in another bottle of pills. She did this so they would think someone tampering with the medicine in the store. Yall know they caught her stupid a**! Unbelievable, she did all that for $40,000. They don't print enough money, man! Forensic science is off the chain these days. If you are into criminology and forensic science, man that field is going places. Now you guys know, I cannot leave out comedy. I love Cedric the Entertainer and Arnez J. I pretty much like all the Black comedians that are out now. I just really love Cedric, Bernie Mac, Martin and Arnez J because everything that comes out of their mouths is funny as hell. Now D.L. Huguley is pretty cool, too. He used to get on my nerves talking about people in the audience, but I have come to find the humor in that being his style. He is a smart brother with a lot of knowledge of politics and what's happening in the world today. He has a lot to say. He's very positive and articulate. I am a big fan of the Tom Joyner show. I listen everyday. Sometimes D.L. Huguley sets in for Tavis Smiley. His commentary is the truth. If you have not listened before, check them out. ![]() Tom Joyner and J. Anthony Brown get on my nerves sometimes, too. They joke about the wrong things sometimes. They seem to have no sympathy for people sometimes, but the show is extremely informative. They have everyone on the show, and they don't mind calling people out on the air. When J. Anthony Brown called out Karrine Steffans, LOL! That was the funniest thing yet, and the hit he murdered about her! Man, that was hilarious! They will embarrass anybody. They do not discriminate! LOL! Even the Christians are not safe with them, like when he asked Juanita Bynaum if she was a prophetess why did she not see that a**whipping coming! LOL! Man, I love Juanita, but that was funny! As for my personal life, well I do not want to disclose too much information, but I will say that I am the proud mother of one college attending, god-fearing, 21-year old virgin daughter who loves and respects her mother (and herself) to the highest power. She strives to be like me. How bout that? Let that speak to the kind of mother and person I am. SHE IS MY LIFE. ![]() First and foremost, I am a Christian. I attend a Baptist church in Mobile that I have been a member of since I was a child. My Father dictates my daily life. Through Him, I am everything. Without Him, I am nothing.
I work at an HBCU in Alabama. I work closely with the students. I take much pride in my work and what I do. I am also a restaurant owner. My mother and I opened a soul food restaurant in 2001. Unfortunately, we suffered a fire in December 2006 from which the owners of the building have not recovered. So, I had to get it where I get it! I went back to work. Establishing your own business is a great accomplishment. It is a lot of hard work and takes a lot of dedication and sacrifice. It was extremely hard, but with God's divine direction, I put my thang down and it was great! Many times I wished to be free, but I stuck it out, and together my family made it a true success. My advice: Many people think that just because you have your own business, you can do whatever you want. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's a privilege, not a right. The folks - city, state and government - make you pay for that privilege. They don't give you a break. They don't care about "what you don't know." You better know what you're doing and how it's done. Mistakes are costly. Yeah, it's your money, but they want their share, fair or not. If they don't get it one way, they will definitely get it another way. Manage your finances and keep good records. Make sure you have accountability for ALL transactions. And that's all I have to say about that! We still have many customers and everyone asks when we are going to reopen. It is always good to be loved! ![]() With God's guidance, I strive to be the best at whatever I do. I have achieved that by many years of hard work, dedication, pride in what I do, sacrifice and drive. I AM AN INDEPENDENT WOMAN. I set goals and achieve them. That says a lot. I think that is the hardest job that most of us have to do. I JUST MAKE IT DO WHAT IT DO, BABY! ![]() ON ALL DAYS AND AT ALL TIMES, IN ALL THAT I DO, I AM ALWAYS A PHENOMENAL WOMAN
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size. But when I start to tell them, they think I'm telling lies. I say, it's in the reach of my arms, the span of my hips, the stride of my step, the curl of my lips. I'm a woman - Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, that's me! Maya Angelou

SH@T RIGHT HERE, THIS IS FOR MY BEAUTIFUL BROTHAS!The truth of the matter is... There is nothing more beautiful than a BLACK MAN. Whether five-two or six-seven. Yellow fabulous or chocolate heaven. There is nothing more beautiful than a BLACK MAN. Long and lean with deep, brown eyes, Wavy hair or dreads with strong thick thighs. There is nothing more beautiful than a BLACK MAN. Bald head with goatee, cornrows or a fade. A little thick, a little thin. Oh, the choices to be made. There is nothing more beautiful than a BLACK MAN. Scholarly or not. Wall Street or Hip-Hop. There is nothing more beautiful than a BLACK MAN. Holding my hand when fear emerges. Remaining faithful, suppressing your urges. Proving your strength by turning the other cheek. Having high hopes when the situation is bleak. There is nothing more beautiful than a BLACK MAN. Treating me like the Queen I was born to be. Never disrespecting, dishonoring, or disgracing me. Giving me credit when it is due. OH, BLACK MAN, HOW I HONOR YOU.
- I GOT YOUR BACK BROTHER - I am glad to know that you are my blood and a reliable pillow to rest my head . I am glad to know that I can hold your hands and not shiver or shake. I am happy to know that I can trust you with all my heart and soul. Like the giant trees of the land shelter great birds in the sky, I will hold you in my mind. I will lean on your broad shoulder in the times of need; Contrary to vain voices of the society, you have never seen my desperation to reach out to you in the times of weaknesses as an act of cowardice. You have not called me names for needing your support when I couldn't walk. You have never held back from answering me whenever I called. You have proven that man is good to man and we are family. In the invasion of silence, I can hear the echoes of your courageous and caring words. They are life. You have never judged me with hate, your rebuke has always been for the love's sake. For all these, I promise you that I will be there whenever you need me. I will hold on to you with every breath of my life, I will never let go. I will hold you like the roots hold soil. I will hold you like the sea holds fish. Like the sunlight of day and the moonlight of night, you have been the stem of my tree of life. I am living because of the love that we have shared. I have got your back, my brother. 2000, Chidi A. Okoye
