Derick Cross (D-Cross) is a visual & performance artist .
Cross is a native New Yorker residing in Brooklyn,N.Y.He works in
a variety of media including acrylics , oils, & polymer
clay D.Cross' work has been shown Through out the new
york metropolitan area as well locations nationally
(Atlanta)& internationally (Sweden& Brazil ). His work is part of the collections of Erykah Badu(Singer),Ed Lewis(Founder of Essence Communications),Ruby Dee(legendary actress) Judith Jamaison(Alvin Ailey director&Legendary Dancer & choreographer)Bashiri Johnson (World renowned Percussionist And music producer among others.He is the Art Director of African Voices Magazine
As a performance artist he combines the
art of Spoken Word(poetry), Verbal Percussion(beatboxing) and
Hip-Hop(emceeing), making music to ears of listeners
everywhere.
"I bring life to sounds and words in order to reach
deep inside the listener," says Cross. CD.Cross has performed in venues
nationally ,, including Madison Squaure Garden,SOB's,
BB Kings,Carolines and Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher
Hall as well as venues in Philadelphia Pa,
Minniapolis,Mn ,Los Angeleles and SanDiego.
The Hottest Poets' $10,000 Grand Slam Champion of
2002/03, D.Cross performed at the Lyrical Court Slam in
London, England.
D-Cross has been featured on Nickelodean TV Land BET's 106's and
Park. He was also selected for taping of HBO's Def Poetry Jam in
March 2003 He has released his own limited edition cds "D-Cross live@ Serengeti"& "Crosssections" D.Cross is also featured on the DVD entitled "Beat
boxing and the art of Spoken Word" released by Beatbox
Entertainment a collective which he is a member of.
Mr. Cross is also an Arts Educator who has worked with young people for over a decade.
