 You hear "Our Stories" being told frequently during "Black History Month", but rarely are they told any other time of the year.........This is a joint from my latest Spoken Word CD...Eternal Reign: Our stories are usually only heard through ghetto tragedies. But we rarely ever make the primetime news. Because they only try to show us on TV at 11:00pm or 5:00 am When most folks are asleep. Except somehow our stories still filter their way Through the grapevine Know as our corner streets Long before the chalk lines of life and death meet. So there is a few fleeting moments of empathy, Perhaps a sense of unity In our communities, But we shouldn't wait till homicide becomes the norm To come together as a family, Ban our wrist or Raise our fist To form an allegiance to say "No More!" To murder and mayhem galore. Black and white seems to form Harmony on the keys But society, Well you see, they aint grasping the concept Until it's voting time. Then that's when they'll think about dropping a few dollars or let's just Say dimes...back into the hood.. All for the common good.. they say of our people. But they aint concerned about our inner city blues Because all year long they tried hard not to put our stories in the news, But just like them..we got screwed. We might not have lost stocks and bonds With the fall of Enron, But we got robbed and lost our jobs too. They dont see that these are our tragedies Ironically, maybe they could see, if they occurred where The street signs don't begin with the names like Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King And the old timers in the hood didn't remember the words to "Lift Every Voice and Sing". But some of our most brilliant milestones Are rarely ever major headlines right now because theres A war going on. But nothing Bush does will ever atone... For what he's done So every day one of our men and women dies, Another black family cries and yet our people still rise But you don't see that in the headlines. I am a firm believer in "if you do what you`ve always done, you`ll get what you`ve always gotten". I love as much as I`m capable of; however, I don`t need someone to make my life complete, nor will I let anyone control me. I'm a Virgo (Born Aug 26), I strive for perfection (realizing I may never achieve it). I don't trust or love easily (but when I do I give my everything). I don't like people invading my personal space (in other words I'm not the touchy feely type..lol). I like my freedom.... so I can do what I need to do with out restrictions (that's the artist in me). Don't dwell on what can't be done, figure out what can be done.. then make it happen. There is always more than one solution to a problem, you just have to know how to put the pieces of the puzzle together to make it fit. I need folks to save the D.R.A.M.A. Real life issues occur everyday, but DRAMA is CREATED by PEOPLE. Born and raised in Detroit, MI, now I reside in Jacksonville, FL. I spent 8 years in the Navy. I love watching a good fight (boxing). I can actually follow a football game and my Daddy taught me a little something about shooting pool. I love driving fast cars, speed is my friend...lol. But I'm stil as feminine as they come (I behave, dress, smell, talk, walk and move like a woman)...smile, but with five brothers I know how to handle my business. I volunteer with children in my spare time because they need to be nurtured, that`s what`s wrong with some of the grown folks now, they weren`t. I have two beautiful daughters of my own that I love dearly and are the center of my life. I do Spoken Word here in Jacksonville under the name "Reign" and travel with it from time to time. I am not looking to be anybody`s freak or booty call, so please keep that in mind if you drop me a note.
