On January 16, 1986, at 3:43am, my mother passed away after a very long illness. It was a crushing blow to my father who was married to her for 24 1/2 years. My father married my mother six weeks after he met her, and were apart the first two years of their marriage because he was still in school in Canada at the time. Two consecutive losses put the game against the Brooklyn Dodgers as a watershed game...and what a game it was!!! Great pitching duel between the combo of Geo (Ocho Grande) and Eddie(Big Z) and the Dodgers Eric Steinbach, who pitched his heart out in this one. Down one in the top of the ninth, the Giants finally got to Steinbach with 6 runs--clutch hitting by the entire lineup.
