A man with a weak mind can see no more than a blind man, hear no more than a deaf man, speak no more than a mute, and has no sense at all.

-El Fahim Abdul-Jahi

Allah (God) first created the world as something amorphous and without grace comparable to a mirror not yet polished; but it is a rule in the Divine activity to prepare no `place` without it receiving a Divine spirit as is explained (in the Qur`an) by the blowing of the Divine spirit into Adam (salallahu alaihi wa sallam); and this is none other (from a complementary point of view to the former) than the actualization of the aptitude (al-isti`dad) which such a form possesses, having already the predisposition for it, to receive the inexhaustible effusion (al-fayd) of the essential revelation (at-tajalli).

There is not (apart from the Divine Reality) other than one pure receptacle (qabil); but this receptacle comes from the Holy Effusion (al-fayd al-aqdas) . For, the entire reality (al-amr) from its beginning to its end comes from Allah (God) alone, and it is to Him that it returns. So, then, the Divine Order required the clarification of the mirror of the world; and Adam (salallahu alaihi wa sallam) became the light itself of this mirror and the spirit of this form...

Ibn Arabi
Andalusian mystic poet
from "The Wisdom of the Prophets"

One cannot contemplate Allah (God) directly without any medium (either perceptible or spiritual), for Allah (God) per se is independent of any one world...

The contemplation of Allah (God) in women is the most intense and the most perfect; and the most intense union (within the perceptible order that serves as a medium for such contemplation) is the act of love.

Ibn Arabi
Andalusian mystic poet

The Ant in Love

Walking one day in a lonely place, King Sulaiman (Solomon) chanced upon an ant hill. All ants immediately came out to hail the king. Only one of their member took no notice of him, for it was busy carrying grain by grain the enormous pile of sand rising before it. King Sulaiman called the insect before him and said:

"O tiny ant, even with the longevity of Nuh (Noah) and the patience of Ayyub (Job), you will never make this mountain of sand disappear!"

"O great king," said the ant, "Do not regard my size alone...but take heed of my ardor as well. Behind this mound stands my beloved. Nothing shall stop me from leveling it. And if I must lose my life, at least I shall die in the hope of reaching her."

O King, learn from an ant what the power of love is, learn from the blind man the secret of vision.

Farid al-Din Attar
Persian mystic poet

The Lover

A man madly in love knocked on the door of his beloved. She asked from behind the door: "Who is there?" He answered: "It is I!" And she replied: "There is not enough room for both you and me in the same house." So he betook himself to the desert to meditate. Years later, he came back and knocked on her door. The voice of his beloved asked: "Who is it?" He answered: "It is yourself!" And the door opened wide.

Ibn Arabi
Andalusian mystic poet

Someone once asked me how old I was, having seen my advanced age, turning to gray at my temples, and in the locks along my forehead.

I answered, "One hour. For verily, I count the time I have lived as nothing."

He replied, "What do you mean? Explain. Here is indeed the most moving of things."

I said: "One day, by surprise, I stole a kiss, a secret kiss, from her who has my heart. However, many my days may number, I shall count only that brief moment, for it was truly my entire life.

Ibn Hazm
Andalusian writer
Tawq al-Hamama (The Dove`s Neck Ring)

Words and Concepts of Enlightenment and Higher Social Connection

You certainly have an ambitious perspective you are expressing in your blog. It's one that I can easily relate to and would and do continue to search for, as well, on this website. In fact I usually only invite connections with individuals who have something to express of interest either artistically, mentally or causally. I find it is preferable to shun those who do not present themselves, their ideas or their interests in a manner that exhibits integrity in a particular manner. While all types can be found on BP, it is still possible to be selective and cultivate revitalizing associations. I have been pleasantly surprised by some of the richness I have found on here when I continue exploring. I agree that BP can be elevated to the qualities of other major networking sites, as you indicate, if more of us seek to strengthen our connections and become vocal within them. My best wishes to you as you seek out a more definitive method of achieving your goal. I, for one, applaud you and support you in this effort.

Peace and Power!

Open Letter to Those Who Dare To Dream

To Those Who Dare To Dream:

My business team leader recently taught me a concept that I thought was quite profound. He said, "Dream times belief equals action." When I read those words after he wrote them on the whiteboard, I knew there was valuable wisdom behind those words.

My team leader went on to point out that a dream of success can be compounded by belief (that success can be attained) into action. For anything achievable in anyone's wildest dreams to be... (continue reading)

BlackPlanet.com is an amazing website. As of this writing, I've been on this site for a few months under ten years. I've met some fascinating people and have had some very enlightening discussions. I have seen this site evolve from a short list of basic features into a multi-faceted web application.

This brings me to ask a question: If BlackPlanet.com can evolve, then why can't some of the members on here evolve? This question is not meant to be insulting, but it is intended to provoke... (continue reading)
