"Free speech is an inalienable right to avoid prosecution for your views, not persecution because of them". The Mo' Kelly Report

A few months back, Mo' Kelly wrote an exceptional blog about Rev. Jeremiah Wright (http://mokellyreport.blogspot .com/2008/04/mokelly-report-fu lly-supports-jeremiah.html). I hope he wins the Pulitzer Prize of bloggery (or whatever it's called) for it. But in reading his defense of Rev. Wright, it brought back to mind his own quote... (continue reading)

Go Dwane T. It's your Birthday, Go Dwane T. It's your Birthday!!!

Yeah, its that time of year. Of course birthdays aren't quite as special as they were 15 or twenty years ago. Ironically, they're not as special as they will be 15 or twenty years from now either. I'm kinda in that middle zone, where you have a good mixture of youth and wisdom, but not enough of either to brag about it. I guess that's why they call it middle age.... (continue reading)

Illegal Scapegoat

My sons are heavy into television. I know I'm partly to blame for that, since I was babysat by the TV as a pre-schooler, and I did the same thing to them. Now that they're older, they watch more news programs. Although I try to counter the more skewed views of the news with some good old fashioned underground internet fact, I try not to do so much that I make them cynical about everything they see on TV. In a two day period last week, I heard the oldest and youngest of the three boys give... (continue reading)

No Good Men!!!

Posted

A simple phrase but one whose meaning changes depending on where and how you choose to breath when you say it; and how you breath when you say it can have life altering effects if your waiting to exhale.

No good men! A declarative statement with each word said emphatically to let people know that you believe that down to their core, men are no good.... (continue reading)

From Last Call to Alter Call

Everytime I hear that song Everybody Everybody on the local gospel station, I can't help but start dancing. It's not like a "filled with the Holy Spirit" type thing it's more of a "Pavlov's dog" type thing. They sampled the music from the club song of the same name, which was my jam back in my early club days. Going back to my early days at Zanzibar, just over the Jersey line, to the U.B. Pub, The Warehouse and The Squeeze back in Buffalo, to that little... (continue reading)

personal message

Sometimes I take myself too seriously...which is a joke in itself (if I could put a smiley face emoticon here now, I would). I can't do anything without making a joke about it, even if I keep it in my head. A few years ago when I was dying from Leukemia and a stroke, I was crackin' 'em up in the intensive care unit. I guess I represent the Christian brothers who found Jesus but never lost their sense of humor. Jesus and jokes are not a bad combination, they both have incredible healing power... which my complete recovery proves.

While I don't always take myself seriously, what I seriously take seriously (seriously!)) is my devotion to fatherhood, mentoring, and just being there when the churin (my grandmother's word) need someone. I have happily and proudly served as a Father Figure to a few thousand kids. While each of them is unique, there are some concepts that have helped me be successful working with them... and in my own life. Here's a sample:

* Each one should reach one, so teach one, or preach to one. Those who can't teach, motivate. Those who can`t motivate, relate. Sometimes that's all our children need... a friendly ear.

* In the eyes of the law, a 24-year-old male is an adult. But in the eyes of his 85-year-old grandfather, he's just a baby. You're never too old to need the wise counsel of elders, so when you know something good, pass it on (...and if you don't know you'd better ask somebody!).

* Children should be respected like adults, and adults should be cuddled like children. Affection and appreciation are not contingent on age.

...a trinity of nuggets of wisdom from the mind of the Daddy-man!, America's #1 consumer of "Utopia Malt Liquer" (i.e. I'm high on life!). The rest will come out in my book... once I sit down long enough to write it. This next one is not mine, but It's the standard I try to live up to

What Makes A Dad...

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,

Thejoy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,

And so,
He called it...
DAD

Deep.. if I do say so myself!

As for who I am, I love life, I love to laugh, and I love to love. I also love to share these loves with those whom I come in contact. Of course I love my family... especially my wife, three sons, baby daughter, three brothers, and two nieces. I also love Breyer's Vanilla Ice Cream, pizza, movies, long walks, moonlight, blah... blah... blah... you know, the basics. I guess I'm just a little 5'8", 133 lb. bundle of love. xoxoxox

Although I'm a retired "rebel without a clue" I still believe that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, but life has taught me that only God can be everywhere... so I stick to the battles that are in my own front yard. In a perfect world, I would leave every life I encounter better off than I found it. The world isn't perfect, but I'm still gonna try. For safety reasons (protection of my eternal soul) I always walk with God, and I'm so happy with the journey that it doesn't bother me that I'm a little lost at times. If you actrually read all of this, your medal is in the mail. As you depart, take this with you:

*****A set-back is just a set-up for a come-back. Tough times don't last... tough people do. *****

Take care, much love
