The general symptoms in early stages can include poor memory; difficulty making decisions; mood changes such as increased depression, anger or irritability; a growing lack of coordination, twitching or other uncontrolled movements; difficulty walking, speaking, and/or swallowing. The order in which symptoms develop will vary from person to person. Below is a summary of symptoms by type: physical, mental, and emotional. On May 22, 2008 my seven year old daughter Imana was, diagnosed with this crippling disease of Huntington's and was only given up to ten years to live. I was most devastated. I blamed myself, the doctors, her father and anyone who wouldn't help me. It took me two and half years to get her seen by a neurologist, because the doctors kept mis-diagnosing her. However, when you are a mother, you know your child, so I kept fighting back until a neurologist would see her. Now I'm continuing to fight for my child's life and for those who may be affected in our communities and not know it. But we need your help. What is Huntington's you might ask? Huntington's disease (HD) results from genetically programmed degeneration of brain cells, called neurons, in certain areas of the brain. This degeneration causes uncontrolled movements, loss of intellectual faculties, and emotional disturbance. (http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/huntington/huntington.htm) Fact: Global incidence varies, from 3 to 7 per 100,000 people of Western European descent, down to 1 per 1,000,000 of Asian and African American descent. Currently, there is no cure. Imana K YHD Foundation The purpose of the Imana K YHD Foundation is to bring awareness, education, and development of funding programs for early detection, and ultimately fight for a cure. In effort to build this foundation, we will be donating all of the proceeds from the CD sales of my first solo project; recently released called "He Did It For Me".
