THE LAUNCH OF CONNECTICUT'S
OWN RECORD LABEL G.M.E. RECORDS: "It's Gutta Baby" Connecticut is
definitely lagging behind in regards to talent in the Hip-Hop and
R&B field of today's music industry. Over years of
predominantly good music, videos, movies and other entertainment
areas, there is a very small percentage, or lack there is, of
contribution to the legacy of hip hop and R&B music that has
come from the state of Connecticut. According to G.M.E. Records LLC
CEO John Haddock, anger and resentment toward this matter continues
to grow… something needs to be done.
Connecticut is home to a dozen major art museums, over 100 art
galleries, more than 35 professional theaters and performing arts
companies. In addition, about two dozen dance companies, over 35
orchestras, and countless performing ensembles, which celebrate the
state's wealth of cultural diversity. Although, there is not a
single Hip-Hop or R&B pioneer that is originated from the
state. With many attempts over the years, no one has actually broke
into the Hip-Hop industry to say that Connecticut has contributed
to this Hip-Hop and R&B markets. As confirmed through varies
interviews with CT's own group of talented individuals, this is a
plague that continues to follow Hip-Hop and R&B talent whom
originates from the state. Dominated by New York and Massachusetts
profile existence, access and contribution to the music industry,
the powerless efforts of Connecticut's talented individuals are
distorted. John Haddock says "we need to do more than step up our
game; we must be a step ahead of the game in order to compete in
today's market. Competition is greater for CT's Hip-Hop and R&B
artist trying to break into the business". Also stated by G.M.E
recently signed artist Dreamz, we will only add to the frustration,
because everyone wants to follow behind the norm. If no one is
willing to make a change, there will never be a change. On December
25, 2005 at the Oracle lounge, Jason Watts from Urban Professional
Network says, "he started the business with the intentions of
creating a portal for Connecticut black entrepreneurs to utilize
the connections of UPN to move their companies into the next
level". Tired of being ignored, many people from various industries
gathered that evening to discuss future plans to cure this
overbearing excuse for a plague. The first project towards
achieving this high profile expectation was the G.M.E imprint.
G.M.E Records LLC was established September 5, 2005 with the
intentions of producing the newest Hip-Hop musical styles
unrecognized by today's music industry. The goal is to become the
first established record imprint in the Connecticut area. G.M.E is
run by artist/producer/writer John "DOE" Haddock, a young
entrepreneur originated from the state itself. John has a history
of experience developing versatile musical inspirations. John has
formed a roster of the hottest Connecticut artist to initiate this
business venture. Claiming G.M.E. Records is the platform among
many to come that will forefront belief in Connecticut's musical
prosperity. He states that G.M.E. will introduce to this society an
established entertainment scene, economic growth, increase in
tourism attractions, job opportunities and many more benefits for
our communities within the state. G.M.E. Records LLC is schedule to
release the DOE project this year along with label mates Dreams,
Brittany, Da Kommittee, G-Pak, Pocket Change and others favorite pages
