I actually had another encounter yesterday with another friend who is fighting cancer right now, and actually undergoes chemotherapy every few weeks. She still works, supposedly on a part-time basis and as a church secretary. However, the pastor that she works for is totally insensitive to her physical state and feelings, and places seriously unreasonable demands on her. I can not speak for any other culture, except that which I know firsthand, but it does seem that there is a prevalence of verbal and emotional abuse in our nuclear family structure and relationships, and thus also subsequently in our relationship and interactions with others beyond that--especially our marriages and also with our children.
