Message from Barack: "How this happened"

Posted

Before his Election Night speech last night, Barack sent out this message to suppporters:

I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history.

And I don't want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign -- every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it's time for... (continue reading)

CHICAGO LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY LOSING ON PRESIDENT OBAMA'S AGENDA?

I seem to be on a losing battle to get Chicago leadership to demand more from President Obama and his new urban agenda. After three months of calling in to talk shows, e-mailing columnists, writers, reporters, elected officials, no one seemed to want to my call on President Obama to open a White House Office of Urban Affairs in Chicago and use Chicago as the example of how his new urban agenda truly empowers people at the grassroots level. Why, because The President stated on his website that his urban agenda was based upon his experiences as a Southside community organizer, so in my mind, what better place to focus that agenda than Chicago's Roseland community where he got his first job as a community organizer. After three months of falling on deaf ears, Mary Mitchell of The Sun Times finally wrote a piece on part of the subject AFTER The President eventually appointed TWO New Yorkers to run the new White House Office of Urban Affairs. Even after the appointment, we still have no idea what other positions are being filled or where communities like Roseland are going to benefit at the Grassroots level.

President Obama also states on his website that he would like to see ant violence groups model themselves after the group CeaseFire and while CeaseFire had some of its funding restored, many other crime intervention and prevention groups in Roseland and others areas are being forced to lay off staff and cut much needed programs in there very areas where crime is increasing! STILL, no public demands from our leadership to The President to direct funds to sustain funds to maintain the programs in the very city and neighborhood where once worked and calls home. How can the President allow his home city to be labeled "The Murder Capital Of The World" when he has the power to direct resources to the very neighborhoods where anti violence programs were working at crime reduction efforts before their funding was lost? And as a community organizer, would the President have been satisfied that local community based credit unions and organizations don't have more direct access to the resources that they have identified at the grassroots level.

The National Action Network, The National Urban League, and The Rainbow/PUSH Coalition are about to hold their annual conventions. Will the grassroots people in Roseland, Englewood, and other urban areas like them feel that their lives are going to be for the better after these conventions have passed? Can't tell The President or Chicago's leadership that they are not doing their best to empower people at the grassroots level, just unfortunate that as I walk through the streets of Roseland, Englewood and others, so many of the least of God's people have lost faith in our leadership. They don't believe their lives or communities are going to change no matter whose in Chicago's various leadership position, nor who President is and the city he calls home. Will The President ever visit Chicago's Roseland community again? I'm still asking, and the current community organizers are still waiting, ready to rebuild Roseland and other urban areas.

Mr. President did you know Richard Pryor jokenly had done profectically that there were going to be a 40th president of the United States. Man I hate that you didn't hire Huey Newton for our Secretary of Defence :). But you are the one to add value to people who want to work for a difference in our lives. You talk about fathers being dead beat some are just dead broke. I guess we will find a way with the right goal and direction. I thank you for being the American Mellting pot your experience is vast and you are one of the smartest men in the world. Michell is cool too I met her years ago and she has the talent which we have to deal with dule consiciousness. having the ability to interact on all levels. Truely I would take a bullet for you. I believe man other brothers would gladly to help for the progress to greatness.
