![]() This is a lovers forum of sorts, not in the sense of lovemaking, but in the sense of a lover of the poetry and the arts, Black Poetry and Art, that is. Of course, it is impossible to discuss and enjoy poetry, even write poetry, without thinking of love and passion. So romance, love and poetry all go hand in hand. So the name of the game is LOVE.
Now, I myself am not a poet. But, I love it just the same. I am one of the many who are moved by the ability of an individual to speak to your soul, to your heart, to your trials, to your tribulations and personal battles, with a simple manipulation of words. I always try to feel where the writer is coming from, and if I can relate, that just makes it all the better. If not, well I just enjoy the ride. As I said, I am not a poet, but I did put together a little something to persuade you to continue on from this point. LOL. Hope you like it. Just a little sumthin sumthin. So, here goes ![]()
I LOVE POETRY An Exclusive by Dark N Lovely I love the spoken word of poetry But Im not too good at this rhyme Sadly, thats a fact I cannot deny. But to introduce you to this world of poetry, I will give it a sincere and heartfelt try. If poetry is your bag and ur feelin this flo, Then this poetic ride will move you for sho! It is my intent to lift your spirit, as well as your mind So dont rush this ride, take your time. My purpose is to appeal to your intellectual side And perhaps help build a stronger sense of pride To provide insight into the depths of the soul To feed a burning fire growing cold. We as a People are soaring higher day-by-day Knocking down obstacles that protrude our way No longer can they hold us at bay Our philosophy is let no man stand in our way. Yeah, the Black Man (and woman) has arrived Today, we control our own lives I mean just take a look around A BLACK MAN FOR PRESIDENT How in the world does that sound? Black People in control of our own lives Making our own destiny Remember when Dr. King only dreamed of a day When that would be. By Dark N Lovely
Hey that didnt turn out so bad, if I must say so myself. Well, I may not be a poet, but you got to give it to me, I do have a lil flo. So Dont Hate. Yall Know from DarkNLovely_1234 that I Keep It Pimpin and I Always ![]() Needless to say, I am a very proud African-American woman. I am also an independent woman. I speak my mind and try not to step on any toes while doing so. Sometimes, though, that is a little hard to avoid. I truly believe the TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE. If you always speak the truth, however piercing it may be, people will always know how to take you. I always say, at least you know what to expect with me. You might now always like what I have to say, but you know its true and from the heart. ![]() Myspace Lyrics Comments & Graphics Unfortunately, many of us have a lot to say about nothing. If you are going to have something to say, make sure you its something worthwhile and something that affects change. Knowledge is power. Educate yourself so that when you do have something to say, you know just what youre talking about. THEN BY ALL MEANS, SAY IT LOUD. Thats the beauty of poetry, it is the expression of your soul! Just a way to get it out. Lift Every Voice! Shout It, Scream It, Sing It, Write It, Rhyme It, Rap It, Just Say It! And, if you say it better than anyone else, I have a little something, something for ya. For those of you who present truly beautiful poetry from the heart, I will present you this my special award. ![]() Sometimes we express ourselves through dance. We are the rhythm of the Earth. As we, African Americans that is, dance to the beat of our own drum, we sometimes find ourselves in that freedom of expression. Sometimes we find a spiritual connection.
angelic dance Our ancestors said that if one affirms, his gods do the same. A child who denies his mother her afternoon nap will never sleep. There is no smoke without fire nor egg without shell. We are not alone. Sometimes the more we look is the less we see. There are much we cant see with eyes of doubt. But plenty can be seen with eyes of faith. We are not alone. We sang songs of old and present from the depth of souls. They echoed our songs and dance above the Earth. We dance to the tune of time. They swing to the rhythm of our hearts. We clap and shake to the ground and above the stools of stress. They jubilate for the strength of souls. We are not alone. We are surrounded by forces unseen. We are surrounded by witnesses unseen. Our vibrations are echoed in the havens above and beneath the Earth. We are one. We are not alone. If the invisible wall between us will be crumbled by the killer wind of hurricane maybe we can see the other side of the rainbow. Like the graceful movement of the Ostrich in mating season. The forces above and beneath celebrate as we sing and dance in praise of life. Step right onto it, dont look back, move your priceless body to the zenith of jubilation. Let go of yourself feel the vibrations of the Universe. Close your eyes, feel the songs of time lift up your heart, swing to the dance of the time. Angelic dance. CUZ WE ARE BLACK AND WE ARE PROUD. What I would like to do with this page is create somewhat of a forum for my BP Family and friends to express themselves through poetry, any kind of poetry. I am not choicy. However, I will not accept any obscenities or vulgarity. Thats how my first page, DarkNLovely 123 got canned after 8 years on the Planet. You know, I had the B-word displayed in a banner that said, Babe In Total Control of Herself. Yeah, that was all good, but it got me canned. So please do not post nudity, vulgarity or obscenities, if you do not mind. KEEP IT CLEAN. Otherwise, feel free to SAY IT LOUD. I will also keep a constant up-to-date flo of poetry, interesting emails, funny jokes, a little irony here or there, some issues and causes, and just a general flo of info. Feel free to use what you like, but please give these people credit for their intellect, do not try to take it for yourself. Its okay to feel their flo, but its not okay to steal their flo. Know what I mean.
Ok, so much for that! Now I was surfing the web world and ran across MR. AFRICAS POETRY LOUNGE This is a really hot spot for poetry. Mr. Africa has a large selection of poetry and highlights a great many African-American poets, new and fresh poets. Maybe some of these flos you have vibed and maybe some you have not, but see if you feel this flo. Heres a little sample of the talented poets I found while chillin in Mr. Africas Poetry Lounge. ![]() THE ALLURE (HIGH OFF THE LIFE) No!!! Im not done, Ill have other days to rest. And I can sleep when im dead. But I dont mean to be a pest And So the voice said... "Sorry my son, The hands of time have all been set." Written by Ryan Jones ![]() LET ME I know you are whole But baby let me enhance you I see you and all I want to do is let you be you Take me by the hand I'll let you lead boo And in y heart There is only you Truth be told I'll come home to you Cook and clean and be betrothed to you I know you are whole But baby let me enhance you Come lay with me and let me relax your mind Let me ease your pain and console you I want to be strong for you Watch your tears fall and love the man in you Feel your embrace around me and channel you I am all that I can ever be with you Helping you see that my love for you is unconditional Nothing here is subliminal Everything I feel for you is visual I know you are whole But baby let me enhance you Lets do the things that lovers do Come closer and let me romance you I seem to fall in love with the way you handle The way our bodies dance to The soft pounding of our heartbeat How sweet It sounds when I put it in words When a love like yours and mine converge You send a surge through and through Now every inch of me belongs to you I know you are whole But baby let me enhance you Written by Schenita White
Black Power Love, An Epic Story Revolution A tale of Black Power Love I dream of a nation where little black boys and girls and little white boys and girls can go forth hand in hand I dream too I dream I dream of a place where a black man and a black woman Hand in hand Reviewing and revising the layouts of their master plan Over and over Again Like the blueprint of a heist And the master plan Plans the master will no longer have the upper hand And the black man and black woman Together build back the land I call it revolution A solution To the pollution we have called love Time to revitalize what we have realized we lost Due to different flavas of love This revolution will bring forth our nation From what it is now to what is was meant to be Like Ozzie and Ruby Dee Eternal That's the vision we decide to set up and be Rebuilding the roots of our destiny Because when we saw each other we instantly agreed With time we can reroute our destiny Easy to see A revolution We fit so natural so pure Like shea butter and ashy elbows Like a pick in search of a fro Like Ashford and Simpson Solid like a rock Like Stevies in the key of life It seemed sooooo right, nice I was the green, like the land ready to grow To give life and help the heavens find purpose You were the black, powerful and determined And together our passion builds the red We was the land of our ancestors our culture Collided in one, our past and future Through us our nation Then our generations Passing our legacy That would outshine history Just like Roots, we keep growing Like the Jacksons, we keep singing our song Just like 2pac, we never die Your east coast meshed with my Midwest Bringing forth what the civil war should have promised A fast pace with culture, liberation, excitement, belief, drive and passion Mixed with the sweet tea of tradition, care, smooth wisdom and purpose We made the perfect United States of African-America Lift our voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring ring with the harmony of you and me I sing I sing I sing Letting my alto bellow out the belief and the promise of what we are Until I hear my anthem being sung as a solo And there is no bass voice, no drumbeat or heartbeat keep tune to our melody Where is your voice, Where is your pride, Why am I singing acapella A solo So low You were only mouthing the word, never giving voice to vision Never putting your fist in air When did my song of redemption Become your reason for exemption I remember and followed the answer of Marcus Garvey I would move to the other side of the world In order to keep a nation true I work and rebuild the pride and smile as we soared high Side by side, never giving reason to die But your panther refused to let me move to my place to help you be You fought it all with pride and power leading you blinding and only one vision to see And in that vision there was no me Just your shadow, claiming victory I protested, with posters and greeting cards Voicemails and sweet nothing. I lodged a sit-in, never taking me out the picture Yet smiling like a bamboozled fool tap dancing around the issue Turning the other check I stayed patient, non-violent I was pushed to edge But I waited By any means necessary You found reasons to leave To deceive To become my public enemy number 1 Fight the power, fighting the power that be Knowing that the power you fought the most Was the love that came from me So we stood stuck. Like Rosa park on the bus. Stuck Like Muslim with the last pie in July. Stuck Like fat girls in coochie cutters. Stuck Stubborn fools fighting for a prize Just on different teams. Me wanting love. You wanting freedom. I shall not be moved. Until the shackles of reality hit me like hot perm on new growth Deteriorated what I thought I upheld Killing the roots that stood strong Laying me down like Jesus off the cross With nothing but exposure Those shackles taunted me running vicariously through my mind What if Not good enough Failed again Silly girl You should have did this If only that And they circled me in a cell build for Mandela. A cell that was built to take a believer and hold them until they never believe no more. That cell that would close in and build the boundaries of a settler a person that gave up on the vision, on freedom, on emancipation, on revolution. And I fought you no more, you disappeared like daddies on child support I fought the prison that bound up Black Love A love for the nation, for my future generations A love for me Until I learn to break the shackles you twisted me in by remembering were I was before you. Like the dust on my ancestors grave, I am the hope and the voice of the slave, Still I rise. And once my shackles loosen, like the noose you gave me to hang myself I remember that the revolution never started with you The revolution was to be birthed through me It is the womb that remains fruitful that will change all that is to be So you grabbed your Malcolm X philosophies and your self-righteous belief and Ill hold on to the Chaka Khan Im every woman Ill turn to Destiny Child and Aretha To Nikki and Sanchez More importantly, Ill turn to the keeper of key in this revolution Ill to the greatest leader ever to be Ill turn to the one power you underestimated Ill turn to me Free at last, Free at last, Thank God Almighty I am free at last Written by Jeska Washington
The Rose that Grew from Concrete Did you hear about the Rose that grew from a crack in the concrete. Proving natures law is wrong it Learned to walk without having feet. Funny it seems, buy by keeping its dreams, It learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete When no one else ever cared. by Tupac Shakur ![]() Now because I am a Sista of the darker persuasion shall we say, this next piece is especially appealing to me.
