Life is a journey,everyday you live and you learn.
My name is Malik Abdul Hakeem, I grew up in downtown New Orleans. My cultural roots started to evolve 900 years ago in the Kingdon of Mali with a tribe called the Bambara.
The bambara were a mande people related to the mandinka and maninga peoples.(Who also lived in mali and were transported in large numbers with the fulani to the Port of Nouvelle Orle`ans).From the bambara we get the second line. The tradition of burying our fellow Orleaneans by playing a sad melody on the way to the grave and playing an upbeat melody on the way back to the streets.This one of many examples of our longstanding culture.


Being a young man that lived to see what many of my friends didn't get a chance to experience. This has given me an enlighted sense of self. I've been to college but only breifly based on my past finacial situation. I've traveled to 7 different countries and learned things about myself that I did't think that I was capable of. I chose wisely a career path and invested my resources and time wisely to benefit my family. I sometimes wish that most of my contemporaries understand their value and safeguard their life, because its the only one we have. Through my travels Allah has put certain people in my path and blessed me with the wisdom to make sound discisions that guide them until this day. An additional note: We got to raise our kids to be make the future , not just live in it.
