Churches should teach Black economics to save our communities By
Mark Allen -Guest Columnist- Updated Oct 10, 2003, 12:14 pm Email
this article Printable page (FinalCall.com) - Many Black businesses
were built and maintained in the ’60s and
’70s because Black churches systematically
pointed their members to the Black businesses. That effort directed
dollars that built Black banks, grocery stores and generated Black
employment within the community. We desperately need that type of
effort again, which would lead to people not having to seek illegal
ways of making money. How can we say we are learning the concept of
"feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and looking out for the
least of these" yet allow our dollars to build up other communities
than our own? It makes no sense for so many other ethnic groups to
own so many businesses in our community that clearly we have the
talent to own ourselves. For instance, a beauty supply store could
not survive in the Black community without Black
women’s patronage. So why
don’t more Blacks own and operate them and keep
the jobs and money in our community? We buy gas, but
don’t own and manage gas stations. Why not open
a Black business mart that has nothing in it but Black businesses?
We’ve got Black developers who can build it and
Black banks that can finance it. We’ve got
Black-owned and oriented radio stations that could promote us
spending our money there. We’ve got Black
churches with radio and television broadcasts that can also
incorporate messages about keeping in our communities that which
would keep our people working. And we have thousands of Black
people who attend church every Sunday who could be told to spend
their money there. We have the buying power to make this happen if
we just made up our minds to do it, and the Black church is key.
The U.S. Census says that for every one billion dollars spent, up
to 50,000 jobs can be created. So, if we collectively made up our
minds to redirect just $1 billion into our community, then 50,000
of our people could have jobs. Let’s do it.
Aren’t we tired of watching people selling
drugs when they could be making money working in Black-owned
businesses in our community? Aren’t we tired of
watching our people going to jail for robbing people of their money
that they have legitimately earned? We did it before to build a
generation of Black businesses in the 60s and 70s, so why
can’t we do it now? We have thousands of lives
to save, and we can do it with the money that we are currently
spending. Let’s make a "conscious effort" to
make it happen. © Copyright 2007 FCN Publishing,

RRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!In
finalizing this series of articles covering my journey to Korea and
Mongolia, I wish to state that there are many unsung heroes and
individuals who have not tendered recognition for their invaluable
help and support of the Nation of Islam over the years. Oftimes, we
are guilty of rejecting their help because of the lack of knowledge
of self and of others who are rendering their service at the Call
of God, Himself. Some of these individuals desire anonymity while
we are going through this process of our spiritual rebirth and
regeneration. Yoni Kim from Korea seated in Art Studio of Artist
and Drummer, Dae Won Kim. According to the Divine Teachings of the
Honorable Elijah Muhammad, Islam—mean ing Peace,
Freedom, Justice and Equality—i s for all people
and nations, irrespective of their avowed religious beliefs, race
or gender. Islam is universal in the nature of
God’s Creation and is in the essence of every
created being. Business people and designers assembled for business
meeting in Korea with organizer, Yoni Kim in background. There is a
cloud hovering over most of our thinking regarding the practice of
the above principles. Until we can discard or eliminate this
darkness in our thinking and come into the light of a new way of
thinking, we are sentencing ourselves and future unborn generations
to infanticide and a depravity of mind with no enlightenment. An
unhealthy view of women is at the root of this immoral decline. To
deny women the creative expression of their God-given gifts and
talents is depriving the nation of her life-blood, and is leading
to mistakes and critical misjudgments in the proper handling of our
womenfolk, that is aborting our birth. The fall of a nation is
engendered by the mistreatment and abuse of women. Viewing them as
second-class citizens is producing a second-class generation of
children who only know the "B" word, by following the examples that
their peers have placed before them. It is said by some of the
Islamic scholars that the Holy Qur’an was
revealed because of the miserable plight of women the world over,
who were held subject to their husbands as nothing but chattel
slaves, or as property to be inherited for the services of their
masters. The deplorable condition of our women is why Master W.
Fard Muhammad set aside special classes for the training and reform
of our women and girls into a high civilization. We would then be
set apart from the world as women chosen above the women of the
world, in building a New World Society and Nation of Righteousness.
Through the reform and moral standard to be set by our women
through their conduct would come the cultivation of our men, our
children, and the production of a happy, wholesome family lifestyle
and environment of love, peace and security. It is true that when
you educate a man, you educate an individual, but when you educate
a woman, you educate a nation; therefore, a nation can rise no
higher than its woman. It was necessary for me to lay the base of
our discussion on the woman, so that we could better comprehend
what we are being deprived of and why. Oftimes we may reject help
or an idea coming from a woman, especially from one whose
appearance may differ from our own, or who may have some manner of
cultural distinctions that may set them apart. Until we are truly
evolved as the women of God, first and foremost, we cannot truly
serve our nation’s best interest or that of
fallen humanity at large. A certain woman of Korean-Mongolian
descent was raised with a predisposed desire to serve in the
unification of our two peoples of Korea and Asia, in general, and
the Nation of Islam and our entire Black Population in America. She
believed that she could act as an intermediary in the area of our
cultural exchange and in the business sector and economic
development. Beginning in February 1998, at our
Saviours’ Day Convention in Chicago, she
introduced herself to me for the first time and expressed a desire
to help me package my tapes on "The Women In Islam Educational
Series" in a CD format for worldwide distribution, with a
particular emphasis on Asia. I shared with her my Mongolian Vision
experience, to which she responded that her ancestors were of
Mongolian lineage. It was during the Honorable Minister Louis
Farrakhan’ s World Friendship Tour III, while in
Korea, hosted by the Reverend and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon, that we
learned that the common ancestry of the people of Korea is traced
to Mongolia, to the region of the Al-Tai Mountains. As many of our
readers may know, I successfully completed a journey to the Al-Tai
Autonomous Republic in Siberia in 2001, and to Mongolia in 2002,
with my passage through Korea, fulfilling an important part of my
vision. Now, as we stand on the threshold of a transition period in
our nation’s renewal, I wish to thank all of
those who have come to assist in our rebirth. "So whomsoever Allah
intends to guide, He expands his breast for Islam, and whomsoever
He intends to leave in error, he makes his breast strait (and)
narrow as though he were ascending upwards. Thus does Allah lay
uncleanness on those who believe not." —Holy
Qur’an, Surah 6, verse 126 To be continued.
