Menelik II born Sahle Mariam on August 17 1844 he took the name Menelik II because Menelik I was the name of the son of Solomon and the Queen of Sheeba

he became emperor in 1889 and helped his ancient kingdom to remain free from rule of European countries and is known for being a very modern king that brought new things to Ethiopia from the outside world and made it important to preserve african traditions in Ethiopia

he died in Addis Ababa on December 12th 1913
