personal messageAbout The Author: "Never allow your circumstances to dictate your greatness or your destiny" This quote resonates who I am and how I live my life. I am a divorced mother of two daughters. These two little girls (affectionately known as the "little munchkins") forced me to get past my negative experiences and to focus on what I would leave behind as a legacy for them. I am a native New Yorker and grew up in Brooklyn for the majority of my life. I attended and graduated from James Madison High School. I eventually moved to Suffolk County, Long Island. I have been writing for over 20 years. The majority of my writing was intended for "my eyes only" and was a part of my personal memoirs. I began writing as a form of "release". I found that when I put my emotions on paper I had an undeniable peace within. Writing then became a part of my healing. When you write about a particular situation and you read it back, you are faced with raw reality. The question you are then left to answer is Now what? We all possess some kind of creativity that allows us to express our feelings. I used writing. However, others may express themselves through music or drawing. I have written articles and short stories (by request) for magazines and for my college journal. One day I made a decision to share my writing with the hopes of being able to help others. Through my writing I have exposed the dirty little secrets that are taboo and that many of us are too ashamed to discuss. I found the driving force within me in order to get past my abandonment issues. "Injustice" is one of my pet peeves. I felt it was my duty to correct as many wrongs as I could. I decided to pursue a degree in Criminology/Sociology. However, once I successfully completed this journey, I felt that I still had more to accomplish. I then went on to pursue and obtain my MA in Criminal Justice/Social Deviance. If you set goals, you can achieve them. Don't allow people to negatively influence you. People told me that I would not succeed because I was a single mother. I was told that I had unrealistic expectations. I quickly realized that the only thing unrealistic about my expectations would be to not pursue them. I enjoy mentoring and motivating young people and adults to be the best that they can be. There is a driving force that motivates us all. It can range from proving people wrong to self- satisfaction. Don't ever give up on your hopes and dreams. I am here as proof that what does not destroy you, definitely makes you stronger. Peace & Love! Michelle-Marie photos (2)friends (167)favorite artists on bp
