personal message

I'm a young writer who grew up in White Plains and now owns a small budding business. It's fun but it also has its stresses. Even with all of its stress, I wouldn't give it up for the world. It gives me free days and allows me to pursue other things that I enjoy like singing and writing.

I try to be the kind of person who really attempts to learn from past experiences. From living in Philadelphia for three years to falling in and out of romance, life has helped me grow. Everyday can't be a sunny day. And plus, just because it's sunny outside doesn't mean it's a good day. Ask anyone who has ever gotten heat stroke.

I love books. I love reading plays. The authors I like are Toni Morrison and August Wilson. Like Homer they are epic poets. But since I write, I think literacy beyond function is a must. I'm not satisfied with being able to read. I enjoy being an active participant with literacy.

For some people "music is life." For me, "music is soundtrack." It really accentuates things for me, rather it helps to explain my mood. Sometimes I sit down and write a song and find out what I'm really feeling. Funny how that works. SO, music doesn't determine things for me, but it does expose certain things. Hence it's my soundtrack. Like the music doesn't determine what is going to happen in the movie, but it is an indicator.

Now, If I have to speak on my favorite types of music, then I'm in a bit of trouble. Heavy Soul music. Blues influenced music gets me going. My guilty pleasures are Carmen McRae, The Temptations, Brooks and Dunn and AC/DC. In my collection people can find all kinds of soul, jazz (not "smooth jazz"), showtunes, folk, spirituals, gospel, rock, baroque and it goes on.

There are certain messages in life that i believe we are to receive. When we read the bible, we can find those messages there. When we live everyday and follow the teachings of God and walk the path of Jesus, we can engage the world in a better way. now, I'm not talking about simply praying and just creating a personal conversation with God. I mean actually doing as Jesus was doing. It doesn't take a miracle to give of ourselves. It doesn't take a miracle to help one another and treat our neighbors needs as holy. It shouldn't take a miracle to want to help other people either. If we are as blessed as we say or know we are, then it shouldn't be hard to cast away the shackles of oppression, suppression and class in order to have God's "will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
