Mwalim is a multidisciplinary master artist and educator. In music, he is a soul-funk-jazz musician, singer, songwriter, and producer on the Liberation Music - MGM label. Named 'Best Male Jazz Artist' in the 2010 New England Urban Music Awards and a multi-award nominee in the Native American Music Awards.

Mwalim has distinguished himself in theater as a playwright, director, and actor. Classically trained at the New African Company in Boston, by James Spruill and Lynda Patton, Mwalim is the recipient of numerous grants, awards and fellowships, including the Ira Alderidge, Osborne, and Longwood. His plays and performance pieces have been presented throughout the USA and Canada as well as the U.K. and the Caribbean. His plays have been produced in New York's Off-Broadway theater circuit as well as the National Black Theater Festival.

As a storyteller and spoken-word artist, Mwalim's stages have included theaters, cafes, festivals, bars, colleges, temples, churches, libraries, museums, powwows, jails, schools, street corners, and community centers.

His book, A MIXED MEDICINE BAG: Original Black - Wampanoag Folklore (Talking Drum Press) is a collection of tales from his award-winning storytelling performance.
