My name is Dae Dae, my stage name is Uneeq Dominguez. I was born in Wichita KS and raised in Harlem N.Y . All my life I loved music. I spent hours listenin to singers like Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, and groups like Earth, Wind and Fire, A.W.B ( Average White Band ), & The Stylistics. Music moved people then, and made us see what love was truly about. When I was 10, I decided to start singing. I started mimicking the singers that I heard and seen. I seen then that this is what I wanted to for the rest of my life. I started singing everywhere I went. I finally got involved in a church choir and sang with them for a year. Then the director put me up front for my first solo, " Lift every voice and sing" . I looked out over crowd and got scared to death, but I remembered what my Dad said, " never worry about what goes on around u. If you have something to do, do it because you may never get the chance to do it again." So I closed my eyes and sang my heart out. When I was done, everybody clapped, then stood up and continued to clap. At that time, I felt like nothing else mattered. After that day , I never looked back. I wrote my first song at 14, in juvenile lock up. It was about how I felt about being locked up and about my separation from my family and friends. My life started changing and over the next 16 years, I would find myself in and out of lock up. I would write about break ups with my girlfriends & the pain I felt about everything around me From fights on the yard and in cell blocks to being locked down in solitary confinement; I wrote about it all. In 2000, I walked out of prison and told myself " I will never come back to this" and I never looked back. I lost focus of my dreams because of my children, I took time off to raise them even though it has been hard (due to their mothers) but I still made it work. I wrote poetry and songs for them so they can see how much I love them. They are the reason I do what I do now. The music is my passion but my children are my drive. For the last 2 years, I have put forth alot of effort to do more, to write more, to push myself harder and farther than I ever have. At 36, I have seen alot, been alot of places and done more than most people my age. People I sing for say I sound like Lyfe Jennings and call me an " old soul " because of all the things I have been through. Now I want to touch the world with the music I have written. As I sing about my life, I know that there will be a song about something that you maybe going through and help you overcome that as I did.
