I would like to share
brief History of the "Puerto Rican Cultural Background"
Puerto Ricans are of a
mixed Spanish and African Descents. This came about when African
ancestors were brought over to replace the lack of Labor Force.
Spanish Men became involved with Africans in Puerto Rico which then
created our Puerto Rican Culture. By 1834, the census established
that Puerto Ricans made up for 11% of the slavery population. It
was not until 1873 that slavery was finally abolished in Puerto
Rico.The purpose of sharing this information regarding our Puerto
Rican Culture is to allow people to have a better understanding of
our heritage. And to share with you that we (Puerto Ricans) share
the same struggles, hardships, obstacles, and slavery. We to
experience discrimaination in all-important aspects of our lifes
such as housing, employment and education. So before you ask me
what amI doing on BLACKPLANET? Let`s 1st. diversify our knowlegde
in other Cultural backgrounds for lack of a better term, before
questioning, critizing and/or discriminating me for not being of
African American descent, the reality of it all is we do sharethe
same roots. You are correct by thinking or even saying I am not
African American ....... but remember this .....

Royo - Representa "La sangre vertida por los Heroes de la
Rebeldia".
* Lonely Star in the Blue - Represents " LIBERTY" .
La Estrella en el azul soledad - Representa " LIBERTAD".
