The Gold Rush of 1849 brought many people out West because of the possibilities that may have been awaiting the seeker. Yet, the general question of many rap fans pertaining to the West Coast is rather or not there is any more gold to be unearthed.- Please no Pyrite (fools gold)! In a time where most of the rap recording artist spit monotonous lyrics that you know the average rapper has already spat - once upon a shallow time - echoing as far out as the message can reach, the lyrics of an up and coming West Coast artist answers to the masses of rap fans: Yo, you done picked a mutha' that can last all night / Cock back, clap back like clap on lights / Tha beast is back / Inglewood know where I be / I ain't here to conversate nig roll yo sleeves / I'm in a bad mood bit_h - need some dough / So I'mma take these keys where they need to go / To the South I'mma 'bout green scream it loud / I'm tha gun that R. Kelly seen in tha crowd / Take a thug from his gang, he won't last for a minute / And Pop Eye beat down if he ain't had that spinach / We was hunger we ain't just happen to flow / I'm so high that I need air traffic control / I was blessed -met Fresh - make moves together / I'mma pack rat so theres no room for error / Who wanna test bit_h, I got number twos for dat / Missing screws, think you better screw shh back / Put us back on tha map or bring y'all to y'all knees / If y'all wanna hang I got ropes in tall trees / Out to tha block where tha hammers is cocked / Another black dude shot by a Rampart cop / Southern California, weed and beautiful women / A bad jump shot, I gotta good shooting percentage / ? thats why they wanna hire Rullet / I got these niggas scared to breathe like Sabrioty test / My chain ? spinning / Winning / What I'm finna do / ? Ain't a rapper that I'm similar to / If so, point him out - I'm tha red nose pit / He talk %#&@$! at 5:45 - he dead by six / - Russain Rullet, from "Where You From" Inglewood, Calif. native, Russain Rullet (pronounced Roulette), n e Dewond Louis, 24, just may only be 5"4' in statue, but once your senses are instantly taken captive by his music, height becomes all irrelevant to judgmental minds. At the young age of 11 he began honing his writing skills and battling in freestyles. By the age of 16 he promoted himself to another position of selling his own written songs that he had recorded on a double cassette karaoke machine, in which he effectively sold around his neighborhood, his school and the local businesses. In the midst of being driven to be heard by his peers, he caught the attention of Dede Roper, a.k.a Spinderella, former DJ of the 1980's pioneering female rap group, Salt N' Pepper. He once tapped his cassette demo unto the window of her Expedition. She took him under her wings and gave him advice about his career and pointed out the things he needed to work on. He took her professional criticism with a positive attitude only to recognize it as a way to sharpen a few rough edges in order to further his career. Growing up in a city corrupted by drugs and infamous gang violence, a young mind can be easily lured in the wrong direction of negativity, but Rullet managed to stay positive and focus. He did a talent show in Inglewood for Rowe Entertainment, where he performed a song he wrote entitled "It Was You That Made Me Change". His performance gave way to being complimented beyond his belief. By him harboring a refreshing sound to being a young new, up and coming artist with such a powerful message and delivery made the crowd love and respect him and his efforts. If you were ever out in Los Angeles circa 2003 at Club Mixed Nuts on Tenth and Washington its likely that you caught him performing. In 2001 "Light it Up" became his very first in studio recording which featured the production of former Rawkus Records recording artist, producer/singer/rapper Novel. For a newcomer he held his own and made an inevitable impression. Novel immediately recognized Rullet's talent and produced four more tracks for him. Since then, Rullet has recorded a library of music and continues to independently push his cds and build his fan base out in Cali and world wide via the internet. Networking plays an important part in breaking into the entertainment industry. So with every chance he gets to network, Rullet is making moves similar to an undisputed Chess player. He has done casting calls and back ground networking. He has been seen in a cameo appearance in Novel's video for the 2001 hit single "Peach". In 2005 while passing out demos he called the attention of DJ D Wrek who loved the cd and played his music during Nick Cannon's show, Wild N' Out on MTV during commercial break. Despite the fact that Rullet doesn't have a contractual agreement to be pimped by big wigs of major labels and to be watered down courtesy of forced executive decisions, any given signed artist would most likely envy his uninhibited flow of lyrics and compelling delivery. His wordplay has the potential to confuse whom ANY HARVARD STUDENT. His style is as confident and aggressive as your favorite hardcore rapper, but embodies sincerity and passion like your favorite conscious mc. He possesses the hard to accomplish ability to rhyme with a versatile range in subject matter. "No Sweet Sixteen" finds the rapper reflecting on the times and life of... in a cinematic protest. He merges a mixture of spitting straight facts and storytelling. Just as the listener began to emote sentimental feelings, Rullet's freestyles causes his contemporaries to sweat jealousy. "I can care less if he didn't understand / Better rock a vest if he couldn't comprehend /...Don't test Dewond / Don't play by the luck of the draw / ... I'm rap's big dog - you just a cat burglar /", as he freestyles along to a blood rushing track. One doesn't have to be a psychic to predict this rap artist's future. The next headline on Russian Rullet will probably read: How The West Won. In the mean time he can be found recording his lyrics over some fire tracks and some where being beloved and admired. I'm not only the author of this article, I'm a Russian Rullet fan! These aren't the times of the 1800's, yet contrary to popular belief, many years afterwards there still lies gold in the West. Tips during your adventure at striking it rich: Don't depend on radio and look toward the streets, underground and mixtapes to calculate up a large "S.U.M." At chance of getting a Russian Rullet cd, rap fans all over will be in awe at the gold once shone back in the days of NWA, Snoop, Dr. Dre, Tupac, Dj Quik and countless other West Coast rappers. Get out your mining tools because it's time to enter into the "gold mind."
