As the licensed Massage Therapist at Zoe's Nail Salon & Spa in Charlotte and recepients of the 2007 Stever Harvey Hoodie Award Winners for the "Best Nail Salon" in the country, I'm in search of a special winner. My work is a fascinating work where the rewards are knowing that I've made positive difference in the life of another human being, that my work is facilitating the healing process of conditions that have either been misdiagnosed or other medical efforts have failed, and seeing the smile of someone return when life has drained them of their joy and sense of self, and eliminate the belief that African Americans in the service industry either provide sub par service quality or as a Massage Therapist(especially brothers)- that there is a hidden agenda. Life is complete with it's own unique set of challenges, disappointmentss, pains, and joys. We experience lasting friendships, heartbreaking relationships, and all of the experiences in between that we call "the meantime". In the meantime represents the "getting through", "the storm(s)", those feelings of being lost, despair, and the time that offers far more questions than answers. However the meantime also provides us that opportunity to listen to that still small voice that is speaking to us. The meantime allows us to engage in instrospection. This is our time to heal.....from within.

During this time, we can find ourselves searching for that one place that we can go.... go to be renewed, to to be rejuvenated, go to refill on hope, laughter, joy, and be spiritually lifted. All of which we do, to keep going, to find balance, to exeperience life in all of its fullness including the highs and lows. Where is your place of comfort?Where is your refuge from the storms of life? Where do you go to become renewed and restored in your mind, body, and soul? It is here that you find refuge. It is here that you are renewed.....

I've had the distinct privaleage to introduce to some and reaffirm to others, the extraordinarilly wonderful experience of human touch through Massage Therapy. The power of the human touch should not be underestimated. We've all at some point in time experienced the warm touch of perhaps our mothers, grandmothers, fathers, spouses, and or signficant others. Whenever someone takes the time just to hold your hand, or place their arms around you. Perhaps its when you need it the most, gentle touch to affirm their love for you and or confirm the importance of your life. It's special. When it happens with the genuine interest of your well being, you know that touch from any other.

It's truly an honor to serve in this capacity. Whether it's providing relief or correcting an a long term condition that my clients had been told that only surgery can correct, restoring mobility to joints that were causing major issues, assisting in postural conditions, or simply providing that place of refuge from the world whenever life beats us down, I'm grateful for the opportunity to make a difference. I take a tremendous amount of pride in my work. I allow my clients after their sessions to write freely about their massage experience. It provides for me immediate feedback on their experience along with ensuring that I'm providing quality services. I've been amazed at one of the underlying themes that my clients ahve commented on by saying that I have "annointed hands". These are clients that do not know one another yet, record very similiar statements. I'm proud of my work. One of the most memorable comments received that has since become my benchmark was simply stated...."For this one hour, I felt like I was the most important person in the world."
