2 truths and a lie

Two of these are true about me. No joke. Which one's the lie? Take a guess...

personal message

Hello People, my name is
Steven Van Patten, but my friends call me SVP.

I am the author of the Brookwater's Curse vampire novel series.
Brookwater`s Curse Volume I has been available for a little over two years and has received rave reviews, (check out Amazon.com) and recently was named an Award - Winning Finalist in the category of African- American Fiction in the National Best Books 2008 Awards, sponsored by USA Book News. Meanwhile, Volume II was released in June of 2008 and won the Premier Book Awards Best Book For 2008 in the category of Mystery/Thriller/Horror and a host of other accolades. (www.premierbookawards.com).

The story revolves around Christian Brookwater, an 1860s Georgia plantation slave who becomes a vampire. During his many adventure Christian fights rednecks, werewolves and a host of deranged monsters, including the World's first vampires.
The narrative is unlike anything depicted in the Blade series, if only for it's unique historical perspective and the social commentaries that are weaved into the story line.

However, while this is a very multicultural story, it is also very true to the vampire genre. There is a generous amount of sex and violence contained in these epics, and therefore is not for children, or people with delicate sensibilities.

For more information please check out my website by clicking on the book cover below or typing www.brookwaterscurse.com into your search engine.
There is a blog at the main website that contains many funny short stories I have written in an effort to explore my comedic side. I also make political/social commentary, like the 'Audacity of Short-Sightedness' article that you can read here on my Black Planet blog.

With all this going on-- (promoting the novels, writing blogs, holding down a day job as a stage manager for various New York-based TV shows AND directing the video at the bottom of my page)-- I don`t get out much. So feel free to hit me off with a private message or give the guestbook some love.

Oh and two other things---

I respect the hustle in all it's forms; street hustle, internet hustle, side hustle, etc. and so on. However, if you're posting messages in my guest book in the hopes that you can lure me to a porno site, stop wasting your time.

I love naked women as much as the next cat, but I'm here on business, you feel me?

New Item: To the sleazy, Nigerian jackass who stole my B&W pic and built a Black Planet page, presumably so you could con women on Black Planet-- seriously dude, what's wrong with you?

Why are there so many more people trying to rip people off on BP than on MYSPACE? Has anyone else noticed this? Am I all alone in the world?!!
All of you out here trying to rob your brothers and sisters with these scams and schemes are cowardly, lazy and really should be ashamed of yourselves. There, I'm glad to get that off my chest!

Can't Even Have A Beer In Peace!

Hello BP Family! First, I want to thank all of you so much! So many of you have purchased my books lately, and many of you have gone to YouTube and watched my videos of my performances. 2009 had it's challenges for all of us on a personal level what with the recession and all, but I have every confidence that we will persevere as black people and Americans.

OK, now that that's over let's talk about something that's been bugging me for a couple of weeks. So I walked into a bar... (continue reading)

Tiger, Tiger, Tiger. How sick am I of hearing about you? Very much!

It must really be a slow news week, what with the wars and the battle for healthcare growing more and more stale, and MTV pulling that clip of that young lady getting punched in the face and Dexter's season finale airing (holy shit, by the way) I guess we just have nothing else to talk about.

Here is a newsflash for all of the outraged sanctimonious people out there that want to drag on with this. PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES SLEEP AROUND!! THIS IS NOTHING NEW!! You know who first... (continue reading)

So a few years back, let's say late 2006, I'm in a Duane Reade. That's not the strange part, I do that all the time. What was strange was that I got into an argument with someone. OK, that's not so strange either. What was strange was who the argument was with.

There was a man named Michael. He used to run a barbershop back in the neighborhood where I grew up, which is a good 20 minutes from where I live now. I knew him in a passing manner for many years, but I wouldn't necessarily say... (continue reading)

I really hate to do two serious blogs back to back. Most of you who check me out on the regular know I like to do something silly, then serious, then back. I like to give the full range. But here is something else that is bugging me...

When I was a kid, my stepfather was three things, a collector of porn, a drinker and Yankees fan. He inadvertently introduced me to the first two and the last item on purpose. I remember a chilly day in 77, where I sat next to him, watching Reggie... (continue reading)

Do The Right Thing!

I really have to reiterate how sick I am of everyone jumping on the Obama isn't for the people bandwagon. And I'm not just talking about Fox News. The on air talent at Fox News have an excuse in that they are being paid large sums of money to denigrate the President and derail his agenda. Feeding the fires of racism and ignorance with clever misdirection and omission of facts are what they are supposed to be doing. And that's fine. What I'm sick of is being out somewhere and being... This Is Ridiculous!! Don't fall for the Okey DOKE!!!

So despite my constant ridiculing of these idiots-- there is apparently a scam artist using some of the photos I have posted to create a page. This shameless jackass calls himself 'CALVIN'. I can only assume he is using the page to scam sisters out of money, since if they ever meet him in person it will be massively clear that he is not the person in the photos. And just to avoid my having to get 80 comments from skeptical sisters-- no I don't have a twin. In order to prevent any other... (continue reading)
