I`m game! Let`s do it!!!

Hello Black Planet! Hello world! Welcome to Chris` spot on BP... (Updated 08/05/09)

First of all... Thank you all for sending the compliments on my page. It`s really great to receive such positive feedback. And for those of you I met in person it`s been great.

A piece of me... Just some passing thoughts.

  • My thoughts on being a dad. The next piece is from when I was a single parent. I was going to tak ethis section out but I feel so strongly about what you`re about to read. I spend a lot of time with my daughter. My neighbors praise me for spending so much time with her. I feel I shouldn`t be praised. I`m only doing what`s natural. I am a MAN and one of the things that REAL MEN do is take care of their children. Not just financially. Not only on weekends. My daughter is my heart, my blood. My parents are still together and I`m only showing the type of love that was shown to me. I don`t understand why men have children and are not there for them. I understand that there are situations where the mother may be using the child against the father making it difficult to be there (and even then you still fight to be with your child) but I`m referring to the men that have an open invitation to take care of their kids. Honestly, I despise them for it. But maybe they`re doing us a favor.Would you want your child to look up to someone who is weak and irresponsible? Just as my mother is the standard to which all women in my life are measured, I will be the man to which my daughter shall measure all other men. They`ll definitely have to have their sh!t together...

  • Life is not a dress rehearsal. You should treat life as if you have the lead role in a play that lasts one night. You want to make an impression on those around you and leave lasting memories.

This week, month, season. A peek into my life:

  • Photography, photography, photography... I'm really enjoying it. NEED A BETTER PHOTO FOR YOUR BP PAGE? DROP ME A NOTE.
  • In June I took a two week trip to Istanbul, Turkey and Paris, France. Please take a look at some of the photos in the slideshows below if you have a chance.
  • See some of my photography on -> Flickr OR purchase some of my work here -> Print & frame my art at Imagekind...
  • REAL MEN COOK went extremely smooth. A HUGE reason as that we had some great volunteers this year. My dad's chili was outstanding!

  • Won 1st and 2nd place in the adult photography category in Bolingbrook's Art in the Park 2009.  That makes 4 years in a row placing.  2008 I won 2nd place, 2007 1st place, 2006 2nd place and in 2005 I took 1st place, 2nd place and the 1st place photo also won people's choice.

Here are some videos and slideshows of my photographic work... Enjoy!

****THIS IS THE LATEST VIDEO. PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT.****
My latest and hottest video to date. FYI the next video after this is not a duplicate.

What am I reading right now?

Books:

  • Photoraphy by Sammy Davis Jr.
  • Metamorphosis by Serge Normant
  • A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
  • A Photographer's Life 1990-2005 by Annie Leibovits
  • Requiem (a tribute to photo journalists who lost their lives in wars in Southeast Asia)

What magazines do I read? (seems like a good way to see where a person is coming from)

On a regularbasis (i.e. you`ll always find a recent copy somewhere in my house)

  • Lenswork
  • Esquire
  • WIRED
  • American Photo
  • JPG (rest in peace as of Monday January 5th, 2009)

This is who I am...

Sometimes I`m boisterous, it??s usually for a laugh. I try to be a gentleman and I posses a great sense of humor. I'm very easy going, patient and very loyal.

Also... I rarely settle for anything and I never, repeat, NEVER give up. My soul is on fire with ambition, passion and an infinite desire to learn. Complacency would be the death of me.

A short list of things that keeps me going...

  • GOD. I don`t have to elaborate

  • My kids and the infinite ways they amaze me

  • Photography

  • Love

  • My friends

  • How unpredictable life is and its challenges

A list of things that I`m into...

  • Photography (my new passion)
  • Music: Modern Bossanova and Brazilian music, most things spun by D.J.s from theU.K., France, Germany. Miles Davis, Sting, and Bjork. Disco! (Yes, I`m a househead from Chicago.)  Fela Kuti, Nitin Sawhney, Natacha Atlas and compilations like Brazilectro, St. Germain, Hotel Costes and Giles Peterson.
  • Movies (indie, mainstream; I love a good story)

  • Automobiles (for me it`s about performance not looks...)
  • Any literature on strategy

A short list of things I`m not into...

  • Ghetto fabulous attire.  I like/love some of it on other people, just not on me.

  • People who`s fears get the best of them too often.

  • Settling for...just about anything

  • The culturally sheltered with no desire to learn or experience new things

  • People with a limited media diet.  Sarah Palin and George Bush are two  really good examples.
  • Men who underestimate women, don`t think that women can do a man`s job, etc. etc. and if given their way would have all women at home cooking, cleaning, and raising kids. AKA Cave Men. I`m sorry but f*ck that old fashiond sh*t. Excuse my French. THE STRONGEST PEOPLEI KNOW ARE ALL WOMEN.

Things I just plain don`t like...

  • Men who don`t spend time with their kids! Is it fear orignorance?!?!

  • People that whine and complain and never do sh*t to better their situation

  • Niggas that are too cool to be polite

  • Colored contacts

  • Most American cars with the exception of a few jems from Detroit.  This does not include old  school Detroit muscle; I LOVE old school Detroit muscle.
  • Cheap people!

  • People who do sh*t half-%#&@$!

  • Jealous people

  • People who can`t take the heat for their own mistakes

  • People who generalize too much damn near all the time... (i.e. statements like "You know how women are..." or "Mexicans are just like that")

  • When all that people have going for them are their personal posessions. The "I got this." and "I got that" individual.

  • People who give up easily.

  • People who always take the easy way out.

  • When people don`t have a proper grasp of the English language. (When people say"mines" instead of "mine". When people pronounce "liked" LIKE-DED.)  I won't hold it against them as a person but I just don't like it.  The way some people just don't like some foods.

Smell goods... (I`m not sure what this tells you about me but here it is)

  • Essence by Cartier

  • Extreme by Bulgari

  • Contradiction by Calvin Clein

  • DNKY for men (NO LONGER AVAILABLE! UG!)
  • Acqua Di Gio by Giorgio Armani

Other interesting facts...

  • Never been arrested (and trying to keep it that way)

  • Don`t do drugs

  • Don`t drink often

  • No core family members on drugs or in jail (Thank you God and I hope it stays that way)

  • No diseases (unless you count stubborn when trying to achieve something)

  • No cavities ever...

  • Worked for NASA (two internships with Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA)

  • Worked 6 years in Cook County Jail. Helped the medical facility develop an application to keep track of HIV+ inmates. [After what I`ve seen at Cook County, chances are item 1 on this list will hold true FOREVER! Don`t get me started on my jail stories...]

  • My family used to make jewelry. We`ve done a lot of custom made greek pendants. We carve the wax, setthe mold, melt the gold, forge the piece, then polish it and "bling... bling..." One piece my dad made that I`m proud of is this nice Delta Sigma Theta pendant thatwe had diamonds and rubies set into. Needless to say the sisters ate it up when we went to DST convensions.

Myquick guide to dating (this is probably a waste because almost no men visit this page with the exception of fellow photographers)

  • First date,if she`s not flirting with you then don`t even think about brining up anything that can be remotely mistaken for a sexual advance.

  • And if she is flirting don`t be a crass a$$ bastard and tell her where you`re going to stick your tounge! Have some finesse.

  • Open doors for her, pull her chair out for her, LISTEN TO HER. It`s not that hard and it`s appreciated.

  • Don`t be a cheap bastard!

  • If you act hard... Stop being so g@d-d@mn hard all the time. If she likes that kind of thing, cool... But that sh!t`s going to get old fast and you`ll just end up looking like an a$$ in the long run.

...that's all I have...

Hope you enjoyed it.  ;-)
