Squirrel Wyde’s Bio
Music, in all its different genres, has always been a part of his life since he could walk. Rightfully so, because music is definitely in his blood. Squirrel-Wyde, was born in Campfield USA (Baltimore, MD) and named aptly by a young childhood friend who recognized his talent early on to mix old school with new school. As a young boy, he enjoyed listening to music and was inspired and introduced to the world of radio by his own father, a local DJ in Dover, Delaware.
Squirrel Wyde had additional musical influence early on when his career was just starting out. DJ Rockit who taught him early on how to mix and also influenced him. Also, DJ Spin and KW Griff taught him how to flip the script in mixing different genres of music. You could always find him perfecting his techniques on the turntables spinning all types of music from Soul, Old School, Club Music, R&B to Hip Hop and Reggae. With his mindset to be good at all cost, it only seemed right that Squirrel Wyde plot his own trail.
Squirrel Wyde got his first real crash course as a DJ mixing it up in the local Baltimore Gentleman’s Clubs. But he was neither content nor satisfied with the status quo. He stayed on his grind and kept the belief that in due time he would reap the rewards of all his hard work. He rocked parties, homecomings, cookouts, family reunions, weddings and made mix tapes for anyone who would listen. He believed that good things come to those who wait. He waited until that big break. Squirrel Wyde was discovered by Reggie Reg who showcased his talent on his 9:00 mix. Squirrel Wyde knew that this was a chance of a lifetime and that it was his chance to shine. He later graduated to become the Mix Weekend DJ. Not just satisfied with mixing, he began to develop his on-air personality eventually hooking up with Haz Mat on the Friday Night Fire from 1 a.m. – 3 a.m.
Eventually “Lady Destiny” would come calling and he knew that was one call he didn’t want to place on ignore. Squirrel Wyde was soon hired to co-host a daily four-hour show from 6 p.m. -10 p.m. entitled "Off Da Hook Radio," which plays the hottest jams and request, as well as provide an entertaining blend of comedy and confessions. The street-proclaimed “Don Thing – The Smut King or Super Squirrel” is single-handedly putting Baltimore on the map. As he asserts, “I feel like the spokesman for the streets. I’m good in the hood.” Mr. Don Thing definitely does his thing and brings the heat with the various segments on his program such as “Hooligan Express” (9:00 Mix Show), “Air It Out,” “Girl Fight,” “Off Da Hook Confession w/Pastor Strip,” “Tuesday Night Fights (Rap Battle), “Hooligan Harassment (Prank Phone Calls),” “Squirrels’ World.” As a result, “Off Da Hook” radio show has been breaking record numbers and is the number one night show in Baltimore.
Squirrel Wyde is definitely in the drivers’ seat. Next Destination: Success. His future in the biz is very promising and it’s only going to get better. He’s earned his stripes in the streets and is definitely poised to earn them over the radio waves. Say what you want, Squirrel Wyde promises to take his career to the next level, one noodle at a time.
