Hello Fellow Planeteers! What's my Vibe? Bringing Classy Back---head to toe.. A true lady in every sense. Not a model of perfection just a symbol of God's grace! Why am I here? To uplift, inform, and network with other positive individuals.I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A RELATIONSHIP OR A HOOK-UP.
ENOUGH OF THE BLAME GAME!!!!! For all of my fellow educators---a book that must be read: No Excuses: Closing the Racial Gap in Learning by Abigail Thernstrom and Stephen Thernstrom. It's definitely a book that tells the TRUTH about the pervasive issues affecting OUR children in terms of their academic performance. 1) BOTTOM LINE---EDUCATION BEGINS AT HOME. Whatever a child learns from their parents in terms of the importance of study and the application of personal discipline will reflect itself in the classroom. Parents are the first and primary influence. If a parent expects and demands excellence and practices it in front of their children, how can that child not be successful? 2) Low Expectations yield low academic performance. Stop blaming the schools, the teachers, poverty, classism, elitism,400 years plus of historical and systemic racism. These have been hindrances but by no means has it been able to stop the human spirit when there is a will to succeed. Take control of your own life and the lives of your children by setting high standards and practicing them . Children will model what you EXPECT and what YOU PRACTICE!!!! It's a tough pill to swallow...Excuses do nothing to alleviate or reverse the problems in our community. Acknowledging the problem, charting a course of action, and resolving to CHANGE (no matter how difficult or painful) will reverse this trend of mediocrity and bring real progress CHECK OUT MY BLOGS AS WELL!!!! Just some thoughts of mine... Please feel free to leave a comment if you feel the inclination to do so FYI---Please Planet---let's find a way to RESPECTFULLY DIALOGUE...We are Kings and Queens. From Parent to Teacher--A Note of Inspiration

Posted

I wanted to share a very touching note I just received from a parent. Names have been changed for anonymity:

Good afternoon to you,

The first time we met with you, we told our son that your class was easy and that you didn't require a lot, other than to complete all assignments and projects. Michael had to learn the hard way. I'd like to thank you for doing what you thought was the right thing to do and that was giving him the grade he deserved (E). My husband told... (continue reading)

Subject: I Have Read and Accept....

your words but I agree to disagree. I'm currently seeking my Ph.d in black studies. I will not tell our people this is a good place. This nefarious nation and those who built this country off of free labor, must pay the reparations that are due us. If not God should show no mercy with his/her wrath. I just got back from New Orleans. There is no change. I talked to a... (continue reading)
