Most would say I'm a strong, determined white Southern woman and they're right.
I was born and raised in Vernon, Texas and still live there with my mom... the two loves in my life are my wonderful boys, Alex and Jason, ages 9 and 8. Their dad is my ex boyfriend who is African American. So yes, my children are bi-racial...
I love my boys with all my heart as I have proven to many members of my own family who are very close minded yes, I have former KKK members and slave owners in my family dating back generations, so I don't tolerate any nonsense when it comes to my beautiful boys.
The fact is African Americans have contributed SO much to this country it's unreal, and to imagine the history and how far they have progressed is nothing short of awe inspiring. Black Americans in particular have shaped, and continue to shape the world we live in every single day.
It's both and honor and a privilege for me to have borne two amazing children by a black man.

The contaminated water disaster flowing through one of Michiganrsquo;s poorest, blackest cities is tainted by poverty and racism. Since April 2014, residents of Flint, a city that is almost 57 percent African American and incredibly poor, have been drinking and bathing in water that contains enough lead to meet the Environmental Protection Agencyrsquo;s definition of ldquo;toxic waste.rdquo; Thanks to widespread mismanagement, a largely African American community now faces the disproportionate... I'm a little ashamed by the nave notions I once held regarding how I would raise my children when it comes to race. It was all rosecolored glasses and singing Kumbaya around the campfire while I told my little biracial sons I am white, my children's father is African American that we are all the same on the inside and that color doesn't matter.I think a lot of us young, white parents who grew up in the '80s and '90s felt that we were doing the right thing by acting as if we couldn't see race and...
