how could i
let myself fall
for a double agent?
while she was in place,
i maintained
a troubled patience,
feeding misinformation,
acting out elation
and trying to squeeze
the best out of an ugly duty station.
"is she here to kill
or just to weaken me",
is what i was thinking
as i kissed her sweetly
and loved her deeply.
i wanted to discretely
allow freud to slip,
and deliver a tip
that my spirit detective,
who's well equipped,
could use
to sink the ship
that was blocking my harbor.
but i soon realized,
to my great surprise,
that the enemy
had chosen wisely.
i fell for the messenger
and almost forgot
the message.
but i don't regret it.
a soldier makes salad
outta a head of lettuce.
so i picked up my old copy
of the art of war
with the loose pages falling
like leaves to the floor,
and read the passage
that means so much: (loosely quoted)
"you can turn an agent
if you use the right touch"....



all you want
is a hug?

hoping

than a token
