History
ULTRA YOUTH! was founded in Memphis in 1985 for junior and senior high school students. In those early days ULTRA YOUTH! provided tutorial programs, social outlets and opportunities for economic development for member youth and their families. ULTRA YOUTH! has evolved into a literacy intensive agri*arts troupe whose credo is "Ag~Art as Evolution!"
Ultra YOUth! has grown in the "Arts", in such mediums as poetry, spoken word, african dance, videography, reenactments, as well as fundamental forms of art. Ultra YOUth! is also intergenerational! This means that we involve all ages, from 2 - 102. :) Elders can teach and share with the young child as well as the young children teach what they know and share with our Elders. "Promoting Ultra Culture!"
The SPONSORS, ADVISORS, VOLUNTEERS, and MEMBERS OF ULTRA YOUTH! adhere to four basic principles: COMMUNITY - SERVICE - VOLUNTEERISM - LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ...these four building blocks are the foundation for such wholistic practices as ...UNITY, SELF-DETERMINATION, COLLECTIVE WORK & RESPONSIBILITY, COOPERATIVE ECONOMICS, PURPOSE, CREATIVITY, and above all else, FAITH! Members are recipients of hands on instruction through intergenerational, cross cultural, caring and nurturing support.
The CREATOR is our grant writer and omnipotent funding source! Community support is required and very much depended upon.
PURPOSE
We are committed to helping in the preparation of youth for a satisfying, rewarding and productive adult life. ULTRA YOUTH! sees the benefits associated with intergenerational networking. Sharing processes involving extended family may reinforce age old concepts of true community! ULTRA YOUTH! teaches both practical and philosophical lessons in family development and community empowerment!
GOALS
*ULTRA YOUTH! conducts all work efforts with these qualitative goals at heart...
*We work to increase ULTRA YOUTH`s visibility throughout the community!
*We strive to struture a stronger MENTOR SUPPORT SYSTEM!
*We are active in obtaining and developing facilities which foster residential, educational, economic and recreational opportunites!
*We concentrate on creating a more flourishing forum for wholistic, health conscious and spiritual networking which will further cultural and moralistic practices!
*We move speedily in the establishment of a stronger community-wide volunteer corp!
*We are focused in our effort to build upon our economic and entrepreneurial training opportunities for all ULTRA YOUTH! participants regardless of age, race, or status.
