Hey whats up Blackplanet. This is Jae. I am going to throw a little information about myself out here for the members of BP. I am a serious traveller and have been to and lived in places like Amsterdam, Italy, Kuwait and Iceland.. Including Canada, Mexico and 40 of the 50 states. It is my sincere belief that black people need to travel to other countries to contrast it with our life back home so we know who we are and what needs to be changed.
There is no empowering feeling like being a black man and not being assumed ignorant before I open my mouth. This is what I had the privilege to expierience when I was overseas in various countries. They see me as walking and talking U.S international policy but atleast not through the suspicious eyes of America. While it is hard to explain to some of them that I didn`t vote and end funding for some project that their country had with the U.S. back in 1987, it did make me want to work three times as hard to make a good impression.
Social Concience (a poem)
Staring out of my window, and it`s strange, I don`t hear the wind blow. I wonder what happened since the last time that we had a global crisis. I`ve been playing my horn like the Pied Piper holding open my eyelids.
9/11 woke us and rose us. We banded our arms together but after we were sure that we were alright we stopped letting our kids play together. I thought that we found a new level to relate and all of that old hate was froze but since our old friends aren`t afraid to come outdoors it`s back to the status quo.
I know that in general life ain`t fair and the facts on my situation are mostly incorrect. Understand though, that Black people are still suffering from the mental programming of slavery, poor upbringing and governmental neglect.
Why do I need to borrow fare to take the bus to work because taxing price of living has eaten my last. When my employer is demanding a tax-break as I break my back to get to his establishment. This just breeds contempt for my leadership. The aggravating part is.. If enough of us turn out who want to be heard, the politicians will just redraw the lines to the district and temporarily add the `hood to the `burbs. Watering the black vote. Everybody`s claiming that their opponent is the worst choice and on television exchanging negative words and things about his personal life that we really don`t need to know. I want to be in the middle of decision-making process and in the political flow but everybody`s lying so don`t ask me why I don`t vote.
