So you have decided to pay a visit to the Wonderful World of A.J. Throwback--proud representative of the Nation’s Capital, the Goings and Jones families, and the legion of Black men handling their responsibilities. It has been said that a man of a high-context culture often links his identity with where he’s from and his environment, and although I grew up in the inner city of D.C., I wouldn’t have wanted to come from anywhere else on this planet because it has contributed to the very man that you either know or would like to know. I thank God for my city, my family, my friends, my multiple cultures (and that’s beyond race), and my wonderful wife for without them, I stand alone. And now, let me give you a personal tour of my world...
You have visited a man with one of the most imaginative minds around, but you have also visited a man that prides himself on humility. He never turns his nose up at improvement because no one who is great became great without understanding their roots and comprehending the concept of limitless creativity and artistry. He constantly takes the time to listen to, enjoy and study the greats who have influenced his love of music. He doesn’t copy what they do, but tries to envision what contributed to such legendary movements in art, such as the mood, the environment, the people involved, the time period, and the overall vibe. It directly connects to the ever-popular saying, “In order to know where you’re going, then you have to know where you’ve been.” He knows that his soul truly existed during one of the greatest periods of music, and with everything that he does within his craft, he only copies one thing: making music with a meaning, a groove and a spirit. His art is a representation and an extension of the enigma that is his mind...
You have also visited a man who has been through his share of love lost, has learned lessons of love, and can admit when he has failed and succeeded. In the process, he has gained one of the greatest gifts that God can give a man other than his children: his wife, who is also his queen, his lover and his best friend. He has taken every one of his experiences and not only prides himself on spreading that wisdom to others in order to propel them towards their own paths of happiness, but more important, he implements them into his own sacred union. He believes in respecting his queen, valuing her trust in him, honoring and praising their unique relationship, and uplifting her to the point whereas she is never standing behind him in support or watching him excel with his back towards her, but he ensures that she is right there beside him with her own individuality intact and solidified. More than anything, he knows that there is no other woman on Earth that could ever fill her shoes...
More than anything, you have visited a man that is a work in progress, but a man that God is working in to make an even stronger man. Part of being human is realizing that we are not strong enough to do things on our own and are prone to make mistakes, and for so long, he has been one of those people. However, he prays that God builds him into the king that he knows He wants him to be. He is not a perfect man and he is who he is, never shying away from that or being ashamed. However, with age comes wisdom and maturity, and none of that is possible if he doesn’t appreciate every single day and all of the blessings that he receives. He understands that he must seize the precious moments that he’s afforded because at any split second, it could all be gone...
So that’s the short and skinny of my world, if you can consider that “short” at all lol! (Sorry I get a little long-winded, but it’s my page so I can do that !!) So as you navigate through my world, please feel like you’re right in your own living room. Please feel free to dig into my thoughts and emotions, my highs and my lows, and my level of energy through my some of my favorite songs, my blogs, and my games that I hope are as fun for you to figure out as they were for me to create them.
