Burr Oak Cemetery Atrocity

Posted

(From bulletin I wrote 7/10/09)

I am sickened and saddened by the Burr Oak Cemetery atrocity. It is estimated that as many as 300 or more graves were desecrated with loved ones dug up, dumped out, and scattered to resale plots under the table while burning documentation of ORIGINAL burials and not recording new ones. The historical nature of this cemetery being the first cemetery in the Chicago area to allow blacks to be buried only makes it so much worse and disheartening. To have the... (continue reading)

Sorry P.C. Police: Skank Robbers Would be Just Too Dang Funny to Miss

Posted

As ignorant as it would probably be...ABSOLUTELY I would see it!!! Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence are amazing talents and could probably pull it off. It probably would be hilarious and great comic relief--an escape from some of the sad realities of the world. Well, as long as the politically correct police don't protest over negative stereotypes and ruin it for everyone. People whom use stereotypes as the bases for their biased beliefs are NOT going to be changed by the movie one way or the... (continue reading)

Jim Brown, Michael Jordan Does Give Back to the Black Community!

Posted

Jim Brown is entitled to his opinion, but it is just that...his opinion. He starts this dialogue every time the list of top paid athletes is published. Perhaps it is just to get the community talking and thinking.

FYI: Michael Jordan stepped in and kept Hales Franciscian High School, the only Chicago Catholic high school founded to educate African American young men, from closing by donating several million dollars with the help of his (ex)wife whom also served on the board. He... (continue reading)

Praying for the Tyson Family

Posted

My prayers and heart goes out to the family. In this trying time, I hope they can stay strong and in prayer. No one can imagine the incredible grief they must be experiencing losing a child unless they have been there. It is unbelievable what some people are comfortable to say on a blog or comment that they would feel squeamish to say out loud in public. It's a story about a public figure, but he and his family are human beings with feelings. Please be respectful and have some compassion; it... (continue reading)

Tupac Average MC, Huh?

Posted

Recently, a magazine argued that although Tupac had a lot of influence, he was overrated and just an average to mediocre emcee.

Just because you say so doesn't make it so. Trust I could write a book on how it just isn't so (maybe I will one day LOL).

This is just another asinine argument to boost sales and page hits. How do you add fuel to the fire? Add arguably one of the most loved, G.O.A.T, cut down in his prime, to the list to get a good heated dialogue and debate... (continue reading)

With a little shimmy of her hips, she was able to shake loose the garments. Still in her Baby Phat heels, she stepped out of the small ring of clothing and turned towards Tre. There she stood with her hourglass figure in those sexy heels, a dainty white lace thong, and nothing else but jewelry and a smile. There was no need to rush. He looked at her, taking her all in with his eyes. Her caramel skin shimmered in the soft fluttering candlelight, while she removed the chopsticks that bound her hair. The motion called attention to her full breast as the long silky braids cascaded past her shoulders.

"My God, are you beautiful."

Myella blushed, and then there it was. Tre could almost anticipate it coming, that demure little thing she did when she was nervous; almost imperceptibly she wet her bottom lip with her tongue and then sensually bit it. That always did it for him turned him on. Kissing her once on the lips teasingly, he backed away, before taking off his pants in such a slow deliberate enticing manner, as 3 Piece's Ooh Ahh played softly; he would put most male strippers to shame. Myella watched him leisurely unfasten his belt buckle, his button, and then finally his zipper. It was obvious what he was getting ready to unveil next and her eyes involuntarily darted to the floor. Dipping his head slightly, his hazel eyes locked on hers, and she raised her eyes, meeting his gaze. Tre shook his head in a commanding way telling her no. She shouldn't feel shy about sharing this experience with him. They were going to make love, the most intimate familiar moment two can share for the first time, and he didn't want her missing a single solitary moment of it. Myella's eyes lowered to just below his waist again. She finished observing him remove his pants and underwear. Her eyes grew wide as she saw the utter size of him.

Black is supposed to be slimming, but damn!

TONIGHT I GIVE IN

Cover Synopsis: Tonight I Give In

The Venue: The Playing Field of Love

The Rookie: Mya

Myella McBride's workload has left her wanting and on the verge of burning out, so she decides she is going out and sheds the cold weather frocks to don something crazy, sexy, and cool, before she retreats to the pseudo security of her books. All Mya is looking for is some fun and a little harmless flirting, because she does not believe the panacea to everything is a man, and everyone knows you cannot meet a good, quality man at the club. Little does she know, across the room destiny could await, in the form of the battleship of masculinity, parting the sea of people and making his way towards her.

Is she ready to get in the game, or is she content just riding the bench, being a spectator?

The Veteran: Tre

Over walks Trevon Threat, all-star pro linebacker, charming, handsome, and intelligent. This intriguing modern day gladiator blows Mya's mind and all her preconceived notions about the spoiled self-indulgent conceited athlete. Tre is conscientious and generous; he cares about the community, volunteers tirelessly, and loves his mama. This man with the intimidating name and ferocious occupation spawns emotions and awakens feelings she did not realize she was capable of feeling.

Is he ready to share his playing time with the rookie and show her some moves on the playing field?

The Game: Love

With the commonality of past sorrows and mutual interests, not to mention preternatural chemistry, Mya and Tre form a solid, special bond of friendship, but they have to maneuver through a blitz of love's fumbles, dropped passes, penalties, interceptions, and sacks.

Will they win, will they lose, or will they GIVE IN?

Book Description and Extended Synopsis

ABOUT TONIGHT I GIVE IN:

It is a romance novel in that it has the conventional elements of the genre, but it is so much more than that. Tonight I Give In tackles subject matter that traditional romances don't and won't touch. Not only is it an exploration of romance, but an inquiry of love. The novel is a journey in love. Myella and Trevon's story is an engrossing emotionally complex journey of friendship, growth, understanding, and love.

The characters meet and there is an instant chemistry and attraction, but this simmers below their friendship that develops. Both Mya and Tre grow to understand that love and their relationship is not simply a matter of wanting or needing it. It's about truly being ready for love and a relationship. They both have to let go and release themselves from the shackles from their past, so that they can embrace and accept love and the future so that they can have a future together. So, in a nutshell, Tonight I Give In is about the beautiful emotionally complex journey of the mental, emotional, and physical surrender of romantic love.

TONIGHT I GIVE IN: EXTENDED SYNOPSIS

After a hectic first year of graduate school and working, Myella McBride just needs a release and to let off some steam. Mya's workload for her masters in English literature while teaching overloaded sections of English composition has left her wanting and on the verge of burning out. At the persistence of her free-spirited best friend, she decides to take advantage of Memorial Day weekend, the first collective opportunity around Chi-Town to shed the cold weather frocks and don something crazy, sexy, and cool, before she retreats to the pseudo security of her books. All she is looking for is some fun and a little harmless flirting with the background of good music to groove to, because unlike her friend, she does not believe the panacea to everything is a man. Besides, everyone knows you cannot meet a good, quality man at the club. Little does she know, across the room destiny could await in the form of the battleship of masculinity, parting the sea of people and making his way towards her.

A painful past, with a mentally and emotionally abusive mother and a failed four-year long-distance relationship with an unfaithful boyfriend, has left her with steamer trunks of suppressed baggage.

When Mya initially avoids the pitfalls of this baggage and overcomes her fears, she is able to give in and really give her heart for the first time. With the commonality of past sorrows and mutual interests, not to mention preternatural chemistry, Mya and Tre form a solid, special bond of friendship that grows into more. A dream romance develops between the two friends, but is friendship, romance, and love enough for them to maneuver through the sexual politics of a new relationship and find their way back together, while combating an onslaught of jealousy, envy, insecurity, temptation, and miscommunication, which is only compounded by Tre's high-profile career and outside foes?

Mia A. Moore grew up in Illinois approximately thirty miles west of Chicago. She studied English literature at the University of Illinois at Chicago, earning a Bachelors of Arts on Mother's Day. While caring for her young family, she continued her studies at the university, attending graduate school and teaching undergraduate English composition.

Mia has been making up and writing stories of love and romance since as long as she can remember. She has always had a passion for literature, writing, communication, rhetoric, and language. Even though, it may seem as if she was always destined to traverse the path of the romance writer, her vision was not always so clear when it came to her destiny. Recent life changes, like Lasik, have brought destiny in clear, full focus. Mia is ready and it is on! Her debut novel,
Tonight I Give In, was released June 2007 by Xpress Yourself Publishing, and she is currently working on her second novel.

As a writer, she endeavors to create well-developed, multi-layered stories of love and romance with believable human beings at the center. Mia writes novels with perfectly flawed, round, dynamic characters located within the framework of emotionally complex storylines, defined by friendship, romance, intimacy, sensuality, passion, and love. She desires to entertain with engrossing stories in which the reader will become emotionally invested, free of gratuitous drama drama just for the sake of drama without a well-constructed purpose. Her ultimate goal is to make you laugh, cry, think, and believe.

On a personal note, Mia loves spending time with her family. When she is not writing, her interests include reading, shopping, cooking, and volunteering. She also likes listening to music, playing an occasional video game, and watching sports. Mia is an avid sports fan. During March Madness, she is seriously into "bracketology" and practically sequesters herself at game time (there really is nothing like the tournament). Her favorite channel is the NFL Network. Mia really loves football like a man, but truly appreciates certain aspects of the game like a woman. ;-)
