personal messageGreetings .... NUBIAN Style, to all my Brothers and Sisters... The White man wants you to remain a boy,he wants you to remain dependent on him, Wants you to come looking for him for some kind of advice, some kind of teaching NO..........You teach yourself, and know yourself, and defend yourself, and be yourself, And you will be recognised as an intelligent person Our people are waking up! Malcom X, 1963 45 years later and still most of us have not really woken up! We are still asking the white man for advice, we are still taking his handouts, and we are still in our drowsiness, allow our heritage, our dignity and our manhood/womanhood to be systematically destroyed We rob, kill, exploit people whose skin is the very same colour as our own, we pretend to forget our ancestors and the freedom they fought and died for, we forget the wisdom and richness of the lands we came from, we ignore our sisters and brother's pain, we gloat in putting each other down, we take the white man's words as gospel, his culture and ways as if it was our own and then we wonder why we don't belong! It is a manifestation of realising that seeking to run away from ourselves to emulate and appease the white man, BLACKS (we) are insulting the intelligence of whomever created as black. We should no longer seek to reform the system, because in so doing implies acceptance of the major points around which the system revolves. WE CANNOT BE CONCIOUS OF OURSELVES AND YET REMAIN IN BONDAGE. We can only truly call ourselves REAL black people if we hold our heads high in defiance, rather than willingly surrender our souls to the white man. We have to wake up! Wake up and teach our children self-respect, and respect for others, we have to show them that we do have a culture, that we have roots that are stronger and better, that we can in our own right build a community that is self-reliant and proud. We have to teach them how to deter from the negatives around them. So that they will be more interested in being real men and women by making something out of themselves, and adding something to their communities, instead of becoming the burglars of Black life in all its shapes and forms. We have to wake up and reclaim our strength, our pride, our dignity then our children will have a firm base to stand on, then they will be able to cope with Black life when it is tough, then they will know that men are made not born they will know how to say NO to anything and anyone that would want to strip them of their power. If we do not wake up and consciously realise the extent of our downfall, if we dont see that if we are not an asset to anyone other than ourselves, then we are and will always remain a liability, then our children have no hope. Moral debt is the hardest to pay back, and we have to recognise that manhood is not measured by anything that is visible to the naked eye It is the work we do inside ourselves that makes us on the outside REAL Black Men and Women! Ours was a true man-centred society, whose sacred tradition was that of sharing, loving and generosity of heart and spirit. We must reject the individualistic, cold approach to life that is the corner stone of the white culture. We must seek to restore to the black communities, the great importance we used to give to human relations, the high regard for people and their inner well-being. In a true bid for real change we have to take off our coats in the freezing cold, and be prepared to loose our comfort and security, our few positions of prestige and image, and any other materialistic hold the white man has on us. WAKE UP and let us create a NEW world, hand in hand, with courage and determination, drawing strength from our common plight and our brother/sisterhood. The Koran, Sura 4:155 "Any time you throw your weight behind a political party that controls two thirds of the government, and that party can`t keep the promise that it made to you during election time, and you are dumb enough to walk around continuing to identify yourself with that party, you are not only a chump, but you are a traitor to your race"-Omowale X/Malcolm X(1964) Be ThankBe thankful that you don`t already have everything you desire. If u did, what would there be to look forward to? Be thankful when you don`t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow. Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement. Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character. Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons. Be thankful when you`re tired and weary, because it means you`ve made a effort. It`s easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks. Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive. Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings. Remember to always say what you mean. If you love someone, tell them. Don`t be afraid to express yourself. Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you. Because when you decide that it is the right time,it might be too late Seize the day. Never have regrets. And most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, for they have helped make you the person that you are today. "WHEN WE COME TO THE END OF ALL THAT WE KNOW, AND WE ARE ABOUT TO STEP INTO THE DARKNESS... "FAITH" IS KNOWING ONE OF TWO THINGS WILL HAPPEN; YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING SOLID IN THE DARKNESS TO LAND ON OR YOU WILL BE TAUGHT HOW TO FLY..." unknown "...YOU CANNOT SEPARATE PEACE FROM FREEDOM, BECAUSE NO ONE CAN BE AT PEACE UNLESS HE HAS HIS FREEDOM"...Malcolm X "If I die in Atlanta my work shall then only begin, but I shall live, in the physical or spiritual to see the day of Africa’s glory. When I am dead wrap the mantle of the Red, Black and Green around me, for in the new life I shall rise with God’s grace and blessing to lead the millions up the heights of triumph with the colors that you well know. Look for me in the whirlwind or the storm, look for me all around you, for, with God’s grace, I shall come and bring with me countless millions of black slaves who have died in America and the West Indies and the millions in Africa to aid you in the fight for Liberty, Freedom and Life. "Bro. Marcus Mosiah Garvey's letter from an Atlanta jail."...HUMAN BEINGS CANNOT BE WILLED AND MOLDED INTO NONEXISTENCE" Angela Davies "BLACKNESS IS NO LONGER A COLOR; IT IS AN ATTITUDE"...Dick Gregory face="Calibri"> "YOU CAN`T HOLD A MAN DOWN WITHOUT STAYING DOWN WITH HIM" "EXCELLENCE IS TO DO A COMMON THING IN AN UNCOMMON WAY"... Booker T. Washington "AS YOU THINK SO YOU ARE, AS YOU IMAGINE SO YOU BECAME..." unknown Being black is a state of Mind It`s not the full hips or the big behind It`s not the nappy hair or the funky talk . It`s not the way we act or the way we walk. Being black is not a choice. It`s "let freedom ring" in a manly voice. It`s sitting in the back of the bus, While all the whites look down on us. It`s learning your black history. It`s fighting for centuries to be free. It`s being left out when you try for a job. It`s being lynched by a Klu Kllux Klan mob. It`s poverty, starvation and all those bad things. It`s being treated as lesser human beings. It`s being followed when you go to the store. It`s knowing your pride cannot take anymore, Being black is smiling when you`re not happy. It`s not saying your friends are "acting white" Cause they get good grades and don`t wanna fight . It`s boycotts, sit-ins and the Alabama bus line. It`s "I want to be free" in a yell not a whine. Being Black is bravery and determination. It`s having strength to "overcome" this color Conscious nations. Being Black is full-time work, It`s whites looking down at you with a smirk. "Acting Black" is considered a pleasure. Our smooth black skin is a treasure. It`s fleshy noses and big juicy lips. It`s tight curly hair and full brown lips. It`s boys who wear a box haircut. And girls who have an unflat butt. Being Black is a different thing. Cause acting black is the thing you bring. It`s not a suit you can just put on. When you takeoff the suit your black ain`t gone. My black skin is where I live. It`s the suit I was born with. And when I`m cold it keeps me warm. It keeps me dry when there`s a storm. And when it`s hot it keeps me cool. My black skin is a valuable tool. Being black is a state of mind. It`s not the full lips or the big behind. Acting black is a different thing. Not just Malcolm X or Martin Luther King. Acting black is not a thing you earn. But being BLACK is a thing we MUST learn |
