woke up this mornin

with a butterfly dancin in my window,

just grooving - in spite of

cloudy skies in shades of indigo.

happy was she,

just spreading her wings,

no worries, no fears

of the storm approaching.

freely flowing and knowing

that God's mercy and power,

will navigate her path

as she moves between rain showers.

seeing this made me stop

and wonder why....

i'm not as faithful

as the Lady Butterfly?

instead i've allowed sorrow

to reside in my heart

like weight on my wings,

crippling a new start

dwelling on yesterday -

knowing i can't change history

and if i stay on this path,

my future will remain a mystery.

so i look through my window

and pray to the Most High

that i receive the message

He sends through the innocent butterfly

i study her rain dance

and it becomes clear to me!

these showers are a blessing -

a chance to be cleansed

and set free!

so tonight, i rest peacefully,

for yesterday i no longer weep

feeling quite confident

that my soul is in good keep.

and if i'm blessed wake again

i'll write more chapters to my story

as i grow and blossom

in the sunshine like

the beautiful morning glory!
