Many of you know that I never embraced 30. I have been 29 for the last 10 years. LOL Thirty wasn't all bad, I learn to let go.....Letting go is a state of mind. It is a light, easy feeling of being free of drama, a quiet that settles over you and calms the storm. It is a sense of inner peace, of accepting life just as it unfolds.


What you are letting go of is the struggle, the panic, the longing for things to be other than they are. Letting go means that, for the time being, your worry, your pain, your fears have all vanished. You are who you are, life is what it is, and somehow it is all okay.


When I think of 40 I think of the story of Noah and the flood, it rains 40 days and 40 nights. And there is the sealing of the covenant at Mt. Sinai, Moses is with God on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights. When Queen Jezebel is pursuing the prophet Elijah, he flees for his life and travels 40 days and nights until he comes to the mountain of God at Horeb. Jesus is tempted in the desert for 40 days and nights; his ascension to heaven occurs 40 days after the Resurrection. What would be the symbolic meaning of the number 40? On one level, it represents a longer period of time, but there is more. The longer time has content: It is a time of need, of struggle, of testing. There is in fact extra-biblical evidence for this usage as well. Forty denotes a period of preparation for some special action of the Lord; it is a time of grace. I think I am liking 40.
