We must also recognize that our failures can ultimately be for our benefit. Many people learn more from their failures than they do from the their successes. They learn what doesn't work, what not to do, and what not to pursue.

God often allows defeat in the life of a believer in order to guide that believer into the path in which he should walk and into the path in which he will succeed.
