My name is Stacey Ann Ellis. I have produced The Blackwash Televised Art Gallery for 8 years. Three years ago The T&J Bakery Cafe asked me to organize art exhibitions to enhance their establishment. Now The Creole Restaurant and Music Supper Club has been added to the mix. Both of these Harlem establishments have great ambiance and assist in furthering the careers of visual artists by putting the general public in contact with both the works of the artists and the artists themselves. It has been my mission to make art obtainable to the general public along with giving visual artists an opportunity to be visible and make a stand for their work through television interviews on Blackwash.   The Harlem News Group offered me an Arts/Culture columnist spot and I accepted, knowing that this was another venue to get the word out about artists and their chosen mediums. I sincerely hope that those of you who visit, e-mail me, and READ THE BLOGS, especially those of you who are visual artists or art lovers interested in artists and their works. Blackwash has been a blessed journey and I look forward to it's future. The people I have met and the experiences I have had because of it thus far are precious and unique.

FLASHBACK/FLASHFORWARD:  This is a group i have started on BlackPlanet.  Back in the day we were quick to act on things protesting, burning bras, sit-ins -you name it, and now it seems that people are just sluggish or so self involved that we have become a passive society.  Well, we have a pro-active President who is moving swiftly and I think we ought to join him in the action by doing whatever we can to get this country on track.  Becoming AWAKE AND AWARE (don't steal that saying just yet, Harold and I are working on a film of the same name.)  Artists:  are we polluting when we dispose of art supplies?  Any recycling ideas?  Will I Am just put four young men into college - have you helped anybody in anyway?  Earth Wind and Fire members have started a number of foundations to help youth - one for musically talented youth, one for youth who have been released from the foster care system among their other missions to improve the world.  Visit their official site online at www.earthwindandfire.com.  Just click on ewf official site in my links.

II know of two non-profit organizations right here in Harlem, NY that you could support if you wish.  It does not matter where you live either.  PROJECT ENTERPRISE helps entrepreneurs. Visit them online at projectenterprise.org.  HARLEM TEXTILE WORKS supports youth in a program entitled Design As Enterprise.  Visit them online too at harlemtextileworks.org.

By all means visit mrjasunwiggins.com and see what he's doing to raise money for research on Breast Cancer - support BIGWIG!

If you can't do something yourself give to someone who's made a way to help people like these organizations .  Post your ideas and most importantly YOUR ACTIONS to give, improve or inspire on Flashback/FlashForward.

Each one reach one, each one teach one.

I am doing my best to get the public to understand that artists are not the stereotypical people they have been portrayed to be.  You will find artists in every profession and walk of life.  it is a respectable and worthwhile career.  Every single thing we use has been designed by someone.  Look around your home, your favorite things were CREATED BY SOMEBODY.

Would you like to Adopt An Artist?  I can definitely make that hook up for you!  Support one of their projects for a day, a week, a month or a year!  Hit me up and we'll talk.  Remember, join Flashback/Flashforward.

IF YOU A INTERESTED IN OWNING ORIGINAL ARTWORKS PLEASE CONTACT ME. ALL ART IMAGES ON MY PAGE ARE COPYRIGHTED AND ARE NOT TO BE USED WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE ARTISTS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ADHERING TO THE COPYRIGHT LAWS. USE OF IMAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION WILL RESULT IN LEGAL ACTION.

On Michael Jackson -

Posted

Despite all the controversy that surrounded Michael Jackson during his brief but packed life here on earth, there is no disputing the fact that we have lost a musical genius, a great innovator, barrier breaker and icon. I sincerely hope that everyone can, as one producer said stop the negative chatter and turn up the music! The brother was most definitely BAD! with a capital B.
